Award 70

During the period of celebrations around the The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the RSGB offered a short-term operating awards series. To be eligible for the award, the QSOs must have been made between 1 and 30 June, 2022.

Details of how to submit your applications are below and the deadline for entries is 31 October.

Amateur radio operators and short-wave listeners worldwide were invited to:

  • Have or hear QSOs with different combinations of celebratory special call signs and stations during this period
  • Contact stations in the British Commonwealth of Nations
  • Contact special event stations that will be active in the period

In celebration of the Jubilee, during June UK amateurs could modify their call signs with a regional identifier of “Q” (under a Notice of Variation to their licences) or add /70 after their call signs. QSOs with a variety of these call signs can be used as part of this award series.

Awards are available at different levels but will not distinguish between modes used – all modes can be employed. The award categories are:

  1. Contact with UK stations using the Q regional identifier
  2. Contact with stations using the /70 suffix
  3. Contact with Commonwealth Call Areas
  4. Contact with each of the seven Jubilee special event call signs operating in the four Home Nations and three Crown Dependencies – GB70E, GB70M, GB70W, GB70I, GB70J, GB70U and GB70D

Contacts with UK stations that are using both the Q regional identifier and the /70 suffix, will only count once – please add them to your Check Sheet on either the “Q” Stations page or the “70” Stations page, but not on both.

Contacts with UK stations using the Q regional identifier or the /70 suffix will count once for any band and mode combination. If you have had a contact with a station on the same band but a different mode, please add each mode to the right of the “RS(T) Received” column.

Contacts with Commonwealth Call Areas are counted based on the RSGB Contest Committees, Commonwealth Call Areas List, plus the seven UK and Crown Dependency entities. This category counts one contact for each Call Area.

Award 70 levels and criteria are:

  • Bronze Award – QSOs with 70 stations in total from any of the categories 1, 2 & 3 (“Q”, “70”, Commonwealth stations) plus at least one GB70 special event station from category 4
  • Silver Award – QSOs with 70 stations in any one of the above categories 1, 2 & 3 plus at least two GB70 special event stations from category 4
  • Gold Award – QSOs with 70 stations in any two of the above categories 1, 2 & 3 plus at least three GB70 special event stations from category 4
  • Platinum Award – QSOs with 70 stations in all three of the above categories 1, 2 & 3 plus at least four GB70 special event stations from category 4
  • Supreme Award – QSOs with 70 stations in all three of the above categories 1, 2 & 3 plus all 7 of the GB70 special event stations from category 4

Applications need to be received by the RSGB Awards Manager by 31 October 2022.  Please note that, in accordance with RSGB policy, Russian and Belarusian radio amateurs are currently ineligible to participate in these Awards.
