Free Training by Telephone and Internet

Why do we need five free courses?

A group of 150 private schools is working to replace A to F grading with a system of “badges” -- similar to badges earned by Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.

  • The focus is on showing that the students have developed skills.

  • Students have some choice about what badges to earn and the order that they will work on getting the badges.

  • The student is ready for graduation when enough badges are earned.

  • The badges are displayed on digital portfolios.

These statements are in contrast to current practices at many schools. Learn more at Mastery.org.

Here's the idea behind the "Free Training." (the Free Courses)

1. Many teachers need more information to get ready for the "focus on skills."

2. Some of that information can be shared FREE.

3. Over the phone you and I can build a shared mindset. You will take steps to strengthening your understanding of the five principles listed on this page. By talking you will learn; by listening to you I will teach.

Why are these courses free?

Principle 3. There are alternatives to grading and alternatives to standardized testing.

Principle 4. Big projects earn academic credit in four subjects are coming

(and are being used at Big Picture Learning and in Finland)... TOPIC: "How to build a big project with several teachers to inspire students to invest in their work." GO TO COURSE #4

Principle 5. Lectures are passive.

The person who lectures is the most active person in the room. The brains of the audience are often more active in sleep than in a lecture hall. TOPIC Peer Instruction -- Innovation from Harvard University with "Turn to your neighbor and persuade your neighbor about your answer." GO TO COURSE #5

OPEN LETTER

I write to you with greetings.

I am a high school teacher and I train students to prepare for the 21st Century skills described by Tony Wagner of Harvard University.

I work with my colleagues to produce projects with students

Would you like to share "best practices"?

I have a proposal that I offer to you...

- Free sharing of information

- Free training for your teachers who want to help their students put their work on the Internet and invite others to learn about their work.... similar to High Tech High School

You can see the work of Ben Staley, a student at High Tech HIgh and now a college graduate TINYURL.com/exampleDP

To start, here is a book of commentaries from Abraham Fischler, a former president of Nova University and a trainer of teachers. He said "Learning should be fun for the learner" page 26

This attitude can be part your future schools.

I'm interested in learning what your "best practices" are for your teachers. I have collected some good practices in tinyURL.com/sun5posters

I hope you will reply

THANK YOU

How can we personalize the experience of this website for each trainee? By following this procedure:

Talking is learning; listening is teaching.

  1. The trainee clicks through an online article or downloads an ebook.

  2. The trainee calls a CPPP volunteer to discuss procedures that grow from the reading. +1 (954) 693-6379 to set up a time for a call.

  3. After talking, the trainee writes a paper (a reflection, including a list of new procedures to follow) and puts that paper on a digital portfolio (website) for the world to view.

  4. The trainee sends the link to the CPPP, and the CPPP displays the link on a part of the CPPP website TINYURL.com/CPPPBadges.
