PENGUIN HOTEL – 2014-15 Art Contest for new art in rooms

The Penguin Hotel on South Beach in Florida invites emerging and accomplished artists, hotel guests, South Beach fans, and creative minds of all ages, in all areas of the world to submit works of their own to the The Big Picture, Interiors at the Penguin Hotel, a juried art contest.

Each room at Penguin Hotel has a wall completely covered in a wall-paper like canvas with an image. The hotel will be replacing the wall canvas in each room and is seeking new art to feature on the canvas.

Penguin Hotel is located in the Art Deco district of South Beach. Nestled on Ocean Drive, The Penguin Hotel faces the famous and beautiful Miami Beach with its white sand beach and blue Atlantic Ocean and Lummus Park with tall, swaying coconut trees and green grass. During Art Basel Miami Beach (Dec 4-7, 2014) week, artists can visit a room at the Penguin Hotel between 12 noon until 4pm (register at Front Desk).

Artists who are registered for the competition and who visit the hotel between the contests start and end date, will receive a $10 bar credit (must be 21 years old and registered for the contest).

Selected artists will win $500 plus a complimentary 2-night stay at the Penguin Hotel.

All artists who enter will also receive a 10% discount on hotel stays at The Penguin. This offer can be extended to friends and family of the artist.

Visit hotel room for inspiration during Art Basel Miami Beach: Dec 4-7, 2014, 12 noon until 4pm (register at Front Desk).

Artist savings discount valid: artists who enter receive a 10% discount on hotel stays at the Penguin valid November 1, 2014 – Nov 1, 2015

Bar credit: artists who enter can enjoy $10 bar credit (must be 21 years old) at the Penguin Hotel (valid Nov 1, 2014 thru January 30, 2015)

Description – Each room at The Penguin Hotel on South Beach in Florida features a single wall that is completely covered with a wall-paper like canvas displaying an image. The “wall art” creates the atmosphere and “vibe” of the room. The current images have been in use for several years and The Penguin Hotel is seeking new images to use on newly printed wall canvases. The “wall art” hangs 24/7, 365 days a year. It is only taken down when being replaced. The work of the winning artists will be on display in the room(s) for many years. The name of the artist will be on the canvas. The winners will also be announced through press releases, social media and other outlets.

Artist applicants need only submit a digital image as per the Juried Art Services specifications for jurying. Those selected will be required to provide a high resolution image that will be reproduced by the venue.  The selected image must be 240 ppi minimum. Do not manipulate the ppi or resolution after taking the photo - keep the native resolution. Best files are 20 meg for the large size canvas prints. Artists do not have to provide the actual wall covering.

In most cases, a bed or two beds, plus a nightstand and lamp are on the same wall as the art.

Artist who visit the hotel between the contests start and end date, will receive a $10 bar credit (must be 21 years old).

Anyone is eligible.

Must be 21 years old to redeem bar credit.

Jury Fees

$20 entry fee

Application Process - All applications will be submitted online at www.juriedartservices.com. Juried Art Services (JAS) is free to participating artists and includes a detailed introductory tutorial. After reviewing our prospectus and the JAS Tutorial, if you have any questions or need assistance with the application process contact the festival director via email or phone. Online application payments are processed directly by JAS. Your application fee payment will be posted on your JAS account within three days after you submit your application .

Jury and Selection Process

A jury of four judges will select winners of the South Beach Art Contest for Penguin Hotel.

A “People’s Choice” winner will be selected on the hotel’s Facebook page.
