~~ Are we getting better at finding and helping victims  of human trafficking in Florida?
~~ Are we identifying and prosecuting the traffickers?
~~ Are our kids becoming more aware of the dangers of sex trafficking?

Two years ago, NCJW and JWF co-sponsored a symposium “Out of Bondage: Combating SexTrafficking in South Florida” that was supported by about 20 groups and attended by almost 400 people. Since then, a great deal has happened in Florida and it is time to take stock of how far we have gotten in ending labor and sex trafficking.

January is National Human Trafficking Prevention month. Also, on January 1, 2016, the National Human Trafficking Hotline legislation will come into effect, requiring the posting of the hotline number and text number in key transportation spots (on the highways, airports, railway stations, etc.), in emergency rooms in hospitals, in strip clubs and massage parlors throughout the state. In addition, the State Legislature meets for its 2016 session on January 12.

We are holding this event to encourage awareness of the new anti-trafficking laws in effect; to push for their full implementation across the state and to highlight further actions and legislation that may be needed to end sex and labor trafficking in Florida.

Agenda

9:30 – 12 noon: Speakers and Panels, including: Rep. Dave Kerner, Sheriff Rick Bradshaw, Barbara Martinez- (Asst. U.S. Attorney), Kimberly Grabert -(Statewide Human Trafficking Prevention Director, DCF), and Regina Bernadin- (International Rescue Committee).

12 – 1:30: Lunch with Speaker Angelina Spencer, COAST (Club Owners Against Sex Trafficking)

2:00: Action Afternoon: For those who choose to join us, we will be going to some massage parlors and strip clubs to verify if they have posted the Hotline number sign or to inform them that they need to do so.

COST: $35 which includes a hot lunch.

On line registration closes December 28th.  All checks must be received by 12/28. After 12/28, please contact Linda Geller-Schwartz at lndgellerschwartz@gmail.com
