Bobbie will outline her approach used during the initial meeting with the client plus the ensuing discussions about goals, budget, the importance of soil amendment as it relates to successful planting, and phasing of an installation.

The hot and dry summers we have experienced, create water usage challenges. In choosing perennials, consider their water requirements and how much water will be guzzled by any given plant. Your perennials will have to learn to drink responsibly; else the horticultural police will take them handcuffed to the compost pile.

John will discuss current trends, reliable sellers, and exciting introductions.

This presentation covers a wide range of annual plants – some that may surprise you. Jim will share a plethora of what is possible in seasonal plants. There are more than you may have considered. Some are for cool seasons and others for warm/hot summers. Suggestions include cut flowers for the dining room, for the kids to enjoy in their rooms, and for the border. The possibilities are endless.


3:30 PM – A Look at the Shady Characters for The Garden Dr. Steven Still, Emeritus Professor, Ohio State University

When gardeners think about shade gardens, they might think “hosta,” but there are more options for the shaded landscape. Besides a tremendous variety of hostas, there are many other perennials with a palette of textures, flowers, and colorful foliage that thrive in the shade. Dr. Still will discuss many perennials that will provide color in the shade garden.
