    2025 Summer Science, Language Arts, and Mathematics (SLAM) Program

  • Program Information and Dates

  • The Science, Language Arts, and Mathematics (SLAM) Program is an intensive enrichment program for high school students that is designed to help enhance students’ science, language arts, mathematics, and reading skills. SLAM also provides students with opportunities to explore careers in health and science.

    Students who are currently enrolled in the 9th, 10th, or 11th grades are eligible to apply for SLAM. Students will be assigned to a SLAM workshop based on the grade in which they are currently enrolled.  

    •  SLAM I is for students who will have completed 9th grade by June 2025

    • SLAM II is for students who will have completed 10th grade by June 2025

    • SLAM III is for students who will have completed 11th grade by June 2025

      

    SLAM I, SLAM III, and SLAM III will meet in person on the campus of Tougaloo College June 2-27, 2025. SLAM classes will meet Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM.  

     

    SLAM is a commuter program.  We do not provide transportation or housing for SLAM. Students who successfully complete SLAM will receive a stipend.

     

  • Application Information and Deadline

  • In this application, you will provide information about yourself, upload your transcript and/or your most recent grade report, respond to three essay questions, and provide the names and email addresses of the two instructors providing your recommendation.   

    Applications will be marked complete and sent for review once this application and the following materials are received:

    1. Most recent report card (ALL applicants), if not uploaded within this application
    2. Transcript (10th and 11th grade applicants only), if not uploaded within this application
    3. Two instructor recommendations (one recommendation must be submitted by a math or science instructor; additional details provided in this application)

     

  • Please check your email frequently once you have submitted your application as you may receive communications if any part of your application is missing or incomplete. Admissions decisions will also be emailed to you.  The priority deadline for consideration in the SLAM program is Friday, April 11, 2025. However, applications will be accepted until all available slots are filled.

  • In the following section, you will be asked to provide the names and email addresses of at least two instructors who may recommend you for the SLAM Program. One of these instructors MUST be a math or science teacher. 

    When you submit your application, the link to your recommendation forms will be automatically emailed to the instructors you list on your application. Please check the email addresses you provide for your recommenders for accuracy.  You will receive an email at {applicantsEmail} when your recommenders have submitted the recommendation form on your behalf. Please be sure to follow up with your recommenders frequently to ensure that they have received the recommendation link for you.
