If you've ever moved before, you know that it never goes as smoothly as planned. In fact, you should probably expect that at least one or two things will go wrong so that you're not as stressed when something bad happens.Luckily, there are a few handy apps that can help make moving feel like a breeze. You'll still have to do the dreaded work of packing your stuff, changing your address, and coordinating schedules, but here are a few apps that take care of certain parts of the move and make your life easier.

1. Avvinue

If you only download one app from this list to help with your move, please let it be Avvinue. When you first download the app, it'll show you a brief questionnaire. You'll tell the app where you're moving, when you're moving, how many people are moving, whether you have pets, and a few other details.

Once the app has all your info, it'll automatically put together a checklist for you based on what it thinks you need to do. Of course, this is an automatic process, so you'll likely need to edit a few things or outright delete certain items. But for the most part, it does a really good job estimating to-do items.

You can also book certain moving services directly through Avvinue, like pet transport and shipping services. If you get a quote or book through Avvinue, you can always look back at the Requests tab to see Quotes and Orders.

2. Moving Boxes

Moving Boxes is ideal if you want a dedicated app to keep track of all your belongings after you've packed them. With an app like this, you'll never wonder where the pizza cutter is or your favorite book. You'll be able to search through the app for that item, and it'll tell you exactly which box number it's in.

You can sort everything into rooms, keep track of numbered boxes, or both. When you're entering items into a box, you can type everything out separated by commas, and the app will automatically give each item its own line. You can also snap a quick picture of the box for convenience; your future self will thank you.

3. Google Keep

Although you can keep track of moving boxes through Google Keep as well, this app is better for a generalized moving to-do list. Since Google Keep syncs up between multiple Google accounts if you add a collaborator, you can share the list with your partner so you can both keep track of what's left to do.

You can keep your note as a traditional empty document, or you can add handy checkboxes to keep up with the massive amounts of stuff to do while you're moving. Once you check an item off, it'll automatically go down to the bottom of the list where you can still see it, but know it's done.

Keep is perfect for a whole range of tasks, including dealing with your smart home products when you move.

4. Yelp

Although Google Maps has accumulated quite a few reviews for businesses over the years, Yelp is the original app of its kind. When you're in the process of packing up your stuff in your current city, you already know where all the good eats are. But when you're in a new city, Yelp can help you find your new favorite eateries.

While takeout is incredibly useful during a stressful move, it's not the only way Yelp can be of assistance. Through Yelp, you can also do a quick search for movers or unpackers to find reputable companies to help with your move.

5. OfferUp

There's no better time to go through all of your stuff when you're moving. OfferUp is a great way to get rid of the items you no longer use, and make money while you're at it.

You can sell larger items, like furniture or big electronics, locally. Or, if you have smaller items that you don't mind shipping, you can sell them to anyone around the country. You can sell an old streaming stick, that fancy graphing calculator you no longer use for school, or even something like an old shirt you don't wear anymore.

6. Shyft Moving

The Shyft Moving app is a handy way to get a moving estimate without having someone actually come to your home. You can do absolutely everything right from your phone.

When you download the app, you'll need to fill out some basic information. Then, you'll see a screen that says "You're set!" and you're free to set up your video call with a Move Consultant. Your place doesn't have to be clean before the call; the Move Consultant just needs to be able to take inventory of the furniture and approximate number of boxes you have.

7. magicplan

This type of app won't be for everyone, but if you're building your own home or you're just really curious to see how well your current furniture will fit into your new place, check out the magicplan app. You can completely replicate your floor plan in this app, with intricate details like ceiling height.

While this app is certainly handy for anyone renovating a home, it's also incredibly useful for people moving into a new home. If you have a way of estimating the floor plan of the place you're thinking of moving to, it's a great way to make sure all of your furniture will fit before you get there so you know which items you might have to sell.

Moving Doesn't Have to Be Stressful

When you tell people you're moving, you probably get a lot of "Oh, I'm sorry." or "Oof, stressful time, right?" It's no secret that moving is not something that any of us want on our to-do list.

Sometimes, though, it can't be avoided. You have to move for work, to be closer to family, or just to have a change of scenery. With these apps, you'll feel like a moving pro. And when you hear that someone is moving, you'll be ready to jump in and share your awesome tips with them instead of simply wishing them luck.
