Fabric of Community Project:                       Crocheted Mandalas
Fabric of Community is a textile-art-based community engagement project that uses fibres and fabrics to share stories of journeys, arrivals, and legacy. This project intends to embrace and amplify the stories and experiences of community members who have migratory experience and have settled in North York.

It is a project of XOXO Downsview, a local arts and culture initiative of Canada Lands and Northcrest. You can learn more at: https://www.id8downsview.ca/xoxo

Crocheting mandalas is one of the central components of this project. Using repurposed and recycled materials, women from different backgrounds will weave and crochet to co-create mandalas, while engaging in a cross-cultural, intergenerational, and knowledge-sharing experience. These individually- and collectively-produced creations will come to represent the makers’ stories of journey, arrival, community, and legacy. They will be installed on Downsview Park's highest mound on the arches of the Wind Rose late summer 2022.

Mandalas will be created during in-person and online workshops:

In-person workshop: Monday June 13, 2022  (1:00pm to 3:00pm)
Online Workshops: Mondays June 27, July 4, 11, 18, 25  (6:00pm to 8:00pm)
