Campaigning for clean water and a healthy environment for humans and wildlife
Projects:
- PFAS Drinking Water Contamination – Deer Creek Springs aquifer
- Critical Areas Protection – Balancing increased housing density with environmental protections
- Edmonds Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary – Restoring this unique tidal wetland
- Salmon Restoration – Assisting in efforts to return salmon to local streams
Our Purpose:
The Edmonds Environmental Council was formed to engage constructively with local and regional governments, to educate our community, to campaign for the protection of our natural environment, and the preservation of human health. The EEC will be a strong voice to protect natural areas, to ensure clean water, and to promote a healthy environment critical for people and wildlife.
Our Mission:
Our Mission is to educate and inform the public on critical environmental issues, to constructively engage with local and regional governments, and challenge them on the unintended consequences of poor policy decisions. When policy is based on incomplete, inaccurate, or misleading information that risks harmful or destructive decisions, we will engage.
Why was the EEC formed?
Edmonds’ government has a long history of prioritizing development over environmental protections. The Edmonds Environmental Council seeks to bring balance between needed development, environmental protection, and compliance with State laws. The EEC was formed in response to a growing need for “informed” voices to help educate residents and City officials on the perils of ignoring the human and natural environment.
This is of special concern in waterfront communities like Edmonds and Woodway with our unique landscapes. Poorly regulated development will result in more permanent environmental damage.
