- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2010Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThis is the second book about growing up in small town midwest I have read. The stories are wonderful as they are in the first book. Kudos to Jean Tennant for her work of editing these two books of childhood memories. Kudos to these writers for sharing their childhood memories with readers. I enjoyed reading about the young girls love for horses, one of them to go on working as a riding instructor and a Special Olympics coach. Then there is the story of the mischievious billy goat that trapped two young girls in the outhouse, the girl who worked as a maid for wealthy people and felt so lucky to go to the Chautauqua. There were snowball fights and mushroom hunts. These are stories of the joy of just being alive. Every story, every memory of childhood is wonderful. So keep up the good writing writers, keep up the good editing Mrs Tennant.

I enjoyed learning about life from a different time and place and the brief chapters make it desirable for a time when reading is limited.
