In this prequel to the Sun Island Heirs, the reader is thrust into the demanding lives of a powerful traditional Texan family "The Adler's" as they celebrate the 60th wedding Anniversary of the family's parents. The Adler's own and run a large Texas ranch consisting of 150,000 acres strong. Ed had his family have operated the ranch against all the odds and elements and it is this love of land that epitomises the hard working life of Ed and his family. This memorable event is soon over shadowed by the deteriorating health of family head - Ed Adler who suffers a devastating stroke while rounding up cattle, leaving his life in the balance.

As the family struggle to come to terms with Ed Adler's fight for life, the family face another fight for survival, the family business "Durant Energy" led by Ed's son-in-law Richard Durrant is the subject of a hostile takeover by an unknown party. Who is behind this takeover and why have they targeted the Adler family?

We are introduced to the stalwart of the family Elizabeth Klein, daughter of Ed and Laura Adler, wife to Jordan Klein, and mother to twins Jack and Marley and young daughter Sissy. Elizabeth realising and fearing for the future of the ranch with her father's deteriorating health and her mother's forgetfulness, swoops to protect their interests and goes to gather all the legal documents relating to the ranch in the dreadful expectation that her worst fears be realised in relation to her father's health. While searching through the documents Elizabeth makes a shocking discovery, the deeds to the family ranch are missing throwing the future and security of the ranch into doubt. Who stole the deeds? Elizabeth realises her mother knows who stole the deeds but why? Realising forces near and far are working to ruin the family, and take away the much loved family farm and business. Elizabeth must rally the other family members around to establish who is behind the plot.

The revelations of who is behind the plot bring long buried secrets from Elizabeth's past to the fore. Will these secrets rip apart everything her parents and family have worked so hard at building up? Will these secrets destroy her relationships and shatter her own immediate family? Will Elizabeth be responsible for saving her entire family or be the reason for its ruin? What has a foreign King and the kingdom of Helionesia got to do with Elizabeth and the unfolding conspiracy? Who can the Adler's trust and how will they face the very real threats which seek to destroy everything they've built up? Can the most unexpected of journeys by Elizabeth and her children provide the key to ending the family's troubles? Does the answer to their troubles lie nearer to home? Or will the Adler's lose it all in a desperate and sometimes futile bid against the unknown and powerful forces.

This Thriller has everything in it, love, death, deceit, desire, greed and ambition. It is captivating at every turn and what stolen item may hold the only answer to their destiny? What forces are the Adler's working against to save the ranch and family business and can they save both in time? Mystery, intrigue, deception and lies of the highest order and the only thing that is predictable throughout, is unpredictability itself.

The plot developments stretch the imagination and the book is fast paced lending itself to an exciting and enjoyable, enabling the reader to visualize everything as it progresses. The writing duo have produced another action-packed, all engrossing thriller with a credible plot and well developed characters. The premise of the story is very interesting and the ending brilliant and dramatic in equal measure. Once you start reading, you will not want to stop.

It is nice to see family style thriller's still written these days and the Adler's can rival that other great dramatic Texan family the Ewing's with ease.

A highly recommended read to all.
