FBISD High School Academies Preview: October 6 @ KHS

Learn about the FBISD High School Academy Program and the application process for 2016-2017.

A number of specialized academies exist at the high school level to provide focused study and services, launching our students toward careers and college pathways in a number of highly skilled and competitive areas.

Students apply for high school academies as 8th graders. The application window for students applying for the 2017-2018 school year is November 1, 2016 - November 30, 2016. Students must reside in the FBISD attendance zone at the time of application, in order to apply.

This event will also be offered (as a repeat) on October 19, 2016 at Ridge Point High School. Registration for that event is available online.

Descriptions of Academies:

Digital Media Academy

The Digital Media Academy exists to provide students exposure and skills applicable to digital media career pathways and to prepare students for entry level positions or college career readiness upon completion of the program.

Engineering Academy

The Engineering Academy exists to provide students opportunities to receive in-depth exposure to a specific career pathway in the engineering field. The Academy is comprehensive in nature and covers the multiple disciplines in the general field of engineering with an emphasis on the engineering design process. Students are exposed to robust academy and academic coursework ensuring college readiness in the field of engineering.

Global Studies Academy

The Global Studies Academy (GSA) exists to equip students to effectively solve the challenges society will face in the future while developing multi-faceted global citizens. Students are empowered to become innovative global thinkers who celebrate diversity. The Academy also fosters leadership by exposing its members to a variety of situations from a globally integrated perspective while offering opportunities in student government, community service and cultural awareness activities

International Business and Marketing Academy

The International Business and Marketing Academy (IBMA) exists to provide students opportunities to develop skills in one of two career pathways – Business or Marketing. Upon completion of the academy, students will be able to conduct basic accounting, marketing and management functions for a business.

Math and Science Academy

The Math & Science Academy exists to provide students opportunities to advance through a specialized series of courses to prepare them for careers in math and science fields. Emphasis is placed on the significance of math and science in a modern society propelled by daily technological innovation. Through the power of math and science, solutions to the world’s innumerable problems can be devised, ranging from rapid climate change with environmental science to building the most profitable, sustainable business with calculus.

Medical Science Academy

The Medical Science Academy exists to provide students opportunities to explore world-class medical facilities and position themselves for medical careers. The Academy offers four years of robust curriculum focused on a variety of medical science topics. With the knowledge and practical skills obtained, Academy students graduate with a decided advantage over others competing to enter collegiate medical programs. Academy curriculum features a comprehensive progression of courses ranging from basic medical concepts to advanced diagnostics.
