5/11/2010Plants & AnimalsPark Avenue (haven't heard their new one, La La Land, yet)MatsoGreat Canadian band on tour in the USA right now. Not a jam band. Classic rock/folk influenced with a very modern energetic indie spirit, but with soul. http://www.plantsandanimals.ca/

5/11/2010Carlos Santana and John McLaughlinLove, Devotion, SurrenderAngryjoggerzThis is one I always like to mention, because it is just so amazingly beautiful. Intended as a tribute to Coltrane and inspired by the teachings of Sri Chimnoy.

5/11/2010Boards of CanadaMusic Has the Right to ChildrenAngryjoggerzProbably one of my top 5 favorite albums ever. Mellow, electronic, strangely nostalgic, atmospheric and timeless. great call Joggerz! My ex-roomate used to play this all the time....very hypnotic. the follow-up (Geogaddi or something simiilar) is pretty great too.

5/14/2010The Upsetters/Lee "Scratch" PerryEatwood Rides AgainEL DudeBest "Scratch" Produced Upsetters AlbumThis early Upsetters lineup is essentially the future Wailers backing band including Familyman on bass and Carly Barrett on drums. Later Scratch productions, including all of the phenomenal albums cut at The Black Ark studio, used totally different line up. -Selector J

5/14/2010MidniteRas Mek PeaceSelector J1999 release that put these Virgin Island-born roots reggae stalwarts on the map. The band composes raw and classic sounding roots that are enhanced by Vaughn Benjamin's insightful and clever lyrics. Incredibly, the whole album was recorded without filtering, compression, equalization, noise reduction, multitracking, or overdubbing.
