  • Homework helps teach responsibility and positive study habits.
  • Parental support is crucial for making homework a positive experience.
  • Individual teachers may send home additional homework as deemed necessary to differentiate for individual student needs.
  • Homework assignments do not receive numerical grades, but completing homework assignments will be taken into consideration for “study habits” on report cards.
  • Math homework will be assigned Mondays & Wednesdays. The homework will relate to the lesson taught that day.
  • Starting after Labor Day, reading homework will be a log of 100 minutes per week. We are asking students to log their minutes on the bottom of their agendas.

3RD GRADE CHRONICLES

Google Chromebooks

We have been very privileged and fortunate to be one of the campuses in PISD that is rolling out Chromebooks in the classroom! Each student will be assigned a Chromebook that will stay in the classroom. We will be incorporating this great piece of technology into our learning as well as understanding what it means to be a good digital citizen. We are so excited for this opportunity and can't wait to see what lies ahead this year!

Parent Communication

Absences & Tardies

  • In Third Grade the STAAR (State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness) administration is given for Reading and Math.
  • The district test which is called MAP will be given to your child to benchmark their progress in the middle and end of year. We will communicate with you on their progress.

STAAR Testing Dates:

Math – Monday, May 11th, 2020

Reading – Tuesday, May 12th,2020

This year, we are using Class Dojo to encourage important skills such as hard work and class participation. We will also use it to communicate with you quickly with you! We can instantly share messages and updates from class. It’s a great way to see how your child is doing at school. We have sent home a special code so that you can access your child’s account.

  • Arriving to School: We strongly encourage parents to make sure students arrive to school on time! They may get breakfast from the cafeteria from 7:00-7:30 and will be released to the grade level hallway at 7:30 to get ready for the day!
  • Arriving late: Students will receive a tardy slip from the front office if they arrive past the 7:45 bell.
  • 3 tardies accumulated in one semester will add up to 1 unexcused absence
  • Returning to school after an absence: Your child must bring a note from home stating the following:

1. Child's name

2. Reason & date(s) for absence

3. Signature of parent/guardian

**Please make sure to send a note no later than 3 days after your child's absence.

  • Your child will bring home an agenda each night with a short description of what they did in school that day and any assignments/reminders for the week.
  • Reading logs will be kept at the bottom of the agenda as well. It is a 3rd grade expectation they read 20 mins. a night.
  • Please sign or initial daily.
  • Agendas are also used by teachers as a communication tool between school and home and should be checked daily.
  • Teachers also send a weekly newsletter to parents on Fridays.
