Breath and Shadow is a literary journal of disability culture, written and edited exclusively by people with disabilities. In this collection, editor Chris Kuell presents the best writing from the magazine’s first 12 years. This collection of our best essays, poems, and short stories shines a light on the many gifts, ideas, and voices of writers who are disabled and removes many of the hurdles faced in mainstream publications. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this anthology will go back into Breath and Shadow, allowing us to increase contributor payments and reach a wider and more diverse audience. I know Mr. Kuell, and I was not at all disappointed by this beautiful book. I know a little girl who has spinal issues, and two families with disabled children. I was very touched by the writers in this book who shared what it was to 'live' in those little bodies with all the challenges. This is book that will make it hard to forget the humanity inside those bodies. I will look at children in wheel chairs with new eyes, and I hope more compassion.. Beautiful, loving book.

Only through disability can one discover their abilities. That's what this series of readings prove to me. Disability doesn't mean, woe is me, but it does mean, take a look at me. The dominant trope is the humor. Without it you can't get out of the starting gate.

from the silly to the heart-wrenching(and back again) are represented in this compact volume. A real must for anyone wanting to know what disability culture is all about.

A beautifully written collection of works. Inspiring and thoughtful. A wonderful collage of all the emotions that comprise the human spirit.
