Thanks for the lead DJM.

But that cover is not postmarked COOLANGATTA.
I require it to be postmarked at Coolangatta.

I have tried hard over a few years now and still can't nail it. :(
So I thought I better go public on StampBoards!

Do you need that precise cover design/colour? I know that there were at least 3 official Post Office variants.

Just wondering what's the story for the scarcity of that specific cancellation?
Mint, or used?

This is not a scarce FDC, HKStampsGuru.
Just difficult to find.
It is waiting to be discovered in a dealer's One Dollar Box.

Your long running "Market Matters" column has always been very popular with Stamp News readers.

Thank you for trying to give this a mention in a future column.

I first posted this on Stamp Boards nearly a year ago.

I hope one of your readers can soon put me out of my misery!

Peter, Thank you for checking your stock for me.

Bunbury in Western Australia was one of 472 Post Offices that had a "First Day of Issue" postmarker at the time of issue of this Stamp on 22 August 1972.

My offer of $250 is for the first day cover illustrated above with a Coolangatta Queensland first day of issue postmark.

The cover I need is also illustrated above

I saw a few of the FDC types you're after in a box lot at a stamp fair last weekend. Unfortunately none of them had Coolangatta CDS's so I didn't buy them.

What I did do was tell the dealer (and others there) that I was looking for that particular FDC with the Coola cancel and would give them a good price if they found one.

I'll let you know if anything eventuates.

I have also kept my eyes out in dealer boxes - and have seen a few but not with the required postmark! :(

One day, it will turn up. :D

If anyone happens to have one of these, I would imagine that this is a "one-off" offer, for a particular need.
The value of your holding may crash, if the Nightwatchman obtains one from another source.
Sell it now, and buy yourself something really nice to add to your collection.

I'm looking for the same cover with a Hayes Creek CDS.

I bought one on ebay only to find the vendor had the wrong image shown and the only Hayes Creek cover he had was already gone.

I'm not offering the big $'s mentioned here but would be pleased to find another.

I remember a dealer in the now defunct Wesley Arcade, Sydney having a shoe box of these covers postmarked Coolangatta, as I made comment to him about the post office using purple ink as a cancellor instead of black ink, these covers are out there some where, maybe an ad in your local paper or a paper that distributes in the Coolangatta area may bring 1 out of the woodwork?
