Elon Volunteers! Leadership Positions

Elon Volunteers! (EV!) is a student run organization with many leadership opportunities available. Typically, a smaller number of positions open up during the fall semester that start in the spring.  During the spring semester, applications are open for many of our leadership positions for the following academic year. Additionally, EV! leadership positions are a great opportunity where you can potentially earn your leadership or service ELR, or potentially both. Leadership Roles
Leader roles within Elon Volunteers! are a great way to grow in your leadership skills and make a positive impact in our local community.  We ask students in these roles to facilitate ongoing experiences for peers and work in tandem with other student leaders and pro-staff advisors.

Note: For anyone applying for a leadership role, you are asked to submit an application and an informal interview will be scheduled with current leaders as part of the selection process.


Leaders In Collaborative Service (LINCS) Positions
The Leaders in Collaborative Service (LINCS) program connects community partner organizations in Alamance County to Elon University through impactful and ongoing volunteer opportunities.  Organizations that are selected as sites are given the opportunity to host a student coordinator.  The role is a unique hands-on paid position where coordinators work a maximum of 7 hours a week during the academic year, with hours split between host sites and campus. Coordinators support their site by recruiting Elon student volunteers to support projects identified in conjunction with their site supervisor.

Membership Role
Member roles are a semester by semester opportunity within Elon Volunteers! and a great way to get more involved and to make a positive impact in our local community.  Member roles are opt-in and do not require an interview.  For anyone who indicates interest in being a member we ask you do the following:

  • Attend member on-boarding training
  • Volunteer at least 3 times throughout the semester
  • Attend at least 1 Institute for Civic Engagement

Benefits of being a member include:

  • Meet other students who are interested in getting involved
  • Get connected with an Elon Volunteers! leader peer mentor
  • Gain new skills that can set you up to hold a future leadership position
  • Get to know more about the local community and organizations that are making make an impact

America Reads Coordinators

America Reads is a tutoring program designed to enhance math and reading skills for students in local elementary schools and afterschool programs.  Working collaboratively with the professional staff advisor, the America Reads Coordinators are responsible for the overall management and day-to-day work of the program. The coordinator is expected to be a committed, motivated, and a highly organized individual who can work with limited supervision. Individuals with a major or minor in education are encouraged to apply, but the position is open to all majors. For more information, click here.

America Reads America Counts Tutors

America Reads America Counts is a Federal Work Study program designed to not only educate youth, but to also provide college students with an outlet to fulfill their work study requirements and delve deeper into the community around us. America Reads America Counts Elon student tutors are placed at local elementary schools or after school programs and work with teachers or community partner staff to help enhance reading and math skills of local children.

K.I.N.G. Academy Program Mentors

We are looking for mentors for the K.I.N.G. Academy Mentoring Program! K.I.N.G. Academy is a weekly mentorship program for boys ages 9-13 coordinated by the Mayco Bigelow Community Center in Burlington.

Here is a list of expectations for mentors:

  • Attend pre-mentor trainings which will be held on Thursday, February 29th from 6-8pm at the Mayco Bigelow Community Center (dinner and transportation will be provided).
  • Participate in weekly mentor sessions, which will occur from 5:30-7pm on Thursday evenings from March 7 through May 8 (not including weeks where Elon is closed for campus breaks)
  • Work closely with at least 1 mentee
  • Actively participate in mentor sessions and be a positive role model to mentees
  • Proactively communicate any scheduling conflicts or feedback to student program coordinators
