DESCRIPTION

The European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research conducted an online survey among 303 food delivery riders to gather data on their working conditions and attitudes towards trade unions. The results show that most riders enjoy working as riders and the flexible working times this job offers. However, they would like to see improvements regarding pay and working conditions. Moreover, a large share of riders experience threats, insults, demeaning behaviour towards them, sexual harassment and dangerous traffic situations. Riders' attitudes towards trade unions are overwhelmingly positive or neutral, but many riders feel uninformed about the work of trade unions and have never been contacted by union officials. Hence, there seems to be a significant recruitment potential for trade unions among food delivery riders. The report and a one-page summary are available for download in German.
