STOP PRESS! Qld Flood Appeal AP Charity Stamps FDCs

Post by brissypete »

As per Glen's suggestion on this linked thread I have decided to offer members here the opportunity to get FDCs for the Queensland Flood Appeal Charity Stamp Issue.

As mentioned elsewhere these are only issued in a peel & stick sheetlet of 10 and no official FDCs will be produced however there will be a special FDI postmarker available at the Brisbane GPO.

I plan to offer FDCs as follows:

1. Plain Envelope with Full Sheetlet of 10 affixed and sent Registered Post anywhere in Australia. A$15

2. General Purpose Cover with Set of 5 Stamps affixed and sent Registered Post anywhere in Australia. A$10

Or deduct $3 from above prices for unregistered covers which will be sent under outer cover, ideal for overseas members. Postage will be extra on unregistered covers.

I will also arrange some additional unregistered covers for anyone who gets in too late.

Please order by midday Thursday if you want Registered Covers posted on Thursday.

Payment can be made by bank deposit or paypal.

Please make sure you email me with your postal address and which covers and quantity you require.

Pete,

Can I have an "Option 1 Unregistered" to England please - I'm guessing that'll be $12, but will email you to make sure...

Also, to ensure Pete is not out of pocket, can I suggest members using Paypal send money as a 'Gift' - that way you pick up any paypal charges (often there are none) and Pete gets the full amount.

Thanks,

Gavin

I'll take a #2, the set of 5 on a cover and mailed in outer cover. Also I'll jump in and take one of the mint panes.

I went for France's Haiti relief stamp last year that a member over there was providing, maybe this could become a specialized collection, "disaster relief semi-postals".

Can you advise on the total for all that then. Will email my mailing address.

Darren do you realise unless REGISTERED locally there is no "evidence" it was sent on First Day Of Issue????

PO will allow back dated cancels for weeks with the special canceller, hence the suggestion re asking for and getting a receival backstamp for ALL those ordering these.

If BrissyPete's sending office, and your receiving office backstamps it, these will be Bona Fide FIRST DAY COVERS ... and as the PO is not offering that option, will be Stars of the Future - take my word for it.

I'd suggest buying a few of these will make perfect sense ... sell a few off to pay for the one you keep, and in all cases the Flood Fund is benefiting financially.

$30 each on ebay etc is very acheiveable in my view if offered REAL fast while it is still very current.

As I posted on the other thread suggesting this -

http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=24884
ozstamps wrote:As there are no official FDC's being made or offered by AP, this will be a SUPERB item in future if on a genuine Jan 27 FDC.

I would urge anyone with some time to create as many REGISTERED FDC's as you can muster.

Start a thread on the 'for sale' column here NOW.

Find an envelope of slightly LONGER than the sheet, but deeper i.e. so it fits neatly on a Hagner sheet, or album page. A5 size would do it I think.

Buy a glue stick and affix the sheet onto the envelope carefully and cancel it lightly.

Ask your post office to BACKSTAMP it .. no legal need to, but it looks good. $6 will easily cover even overseas mailings.

Pay for the REGISTERED label, and mail it to the persons ordering it within OZ.

Charge $15 each and the balance goes to official Flood Appeal fund.

For the recipient be certain you get YOUR post office to cancel it on back upon receipt .. this double verifies the Jan 27 mail date.

I'd do it myself, but my PM tells me today he did not order any. Which amazed me.

First ever Charity issue, and first ever peel and stick only commem, and no official FDC offered, will make these GREAT items in the future. Mark my words.

When sending me an email to order these please be very clear as to which covers you are order and whether registered or unregistered as some emails have been somewhat vague.

Also to make things easier if paying by paypal my payment address is salesATpwstamps.com.au - replace the AT with [at]

If sending a direct paypal payment please list exactly what you are ordering.

Thanks

Perhaps I can answer as time is running VERY short.

Such things cannot be mailed out of Australia REGISTERED unless the small packet rate of $21 to USA is paid. And mailing piece needs to be large enough to bear the large multi copy Reg'd document.

And then 10% more than that, needs be added on as these are not It'l stamps with zero GST in them!

So I am gessing about $US30 is needed for one overseas Reg'd.

I would rather order two of them and have more money go towards the flood appeal than spend a crazy amount of money on a empty package.

Would anyone be willing to accept these in Australia and then remail them?

A third sheet should cover US postage.

All registered and other covers that were requested to be sent through the mail were lodged at the Brisbane GPO this afternoon to be cancelled with the special FDI postmarker. Noticed a few other people producing their own FDCs as well.

The orders to be sent under outer cover will be sent over the weekend and I will collect them tomorrow morning.

I have done a few extras of both types unregistered but cannot remember how many so will make a post tomorrow sometime with quantities remaining and pictures.

I used cut down secondhand hagners for stiffener in all the posted FDCs so hopefully they will all arrive in good condition.

So all the fuss about backstamped, tied to piece, registered, proof of FDI?....
Anything yesterday (27th) and that was it. No proof required.

They made a canceller for a day? I bet that postoffice was busy.

Unfortunately my postoffice still has plenty of sheets as no one else except "stampers" really knew about it. It's not like there is a big poster inviting you to buy one!

There will be some 'bean counter' in the accounts department of AP that will be looking for blood.

Poor productivity - 1 day use only. Rations will be cut back. More red ink will have to be ordered.

Hope Abbot does not hear about this waste.

My local office does not even have a circular date stamp

Exactly! Well done and a good cause.

History shows us however the ones worth serious money will be REGISTERED with the special BNE cancel. As I suggested, placed on ebay now at double or treble what you paid BrissyPete and they WILL sell.

Remember 95% of the stamp collecting public do not even know these stamps are issued, much less not realising there is no official FDC. Stampboards members not only knew, they had a member who volunteered to personally get the one relevant cancel on them, FDI, and mail them globally.

The same way a 1953 Food block 9 FDC set, on 1969 Flight Block 9 or 1971 Xmas Block 25 are all worth $100s each, is if the entire unit is on the single FDC.

All are $200 apiece. Why? As the PO did not offer them. And most collectors were not savvy enough to create them individually.

A 1953 Food block 8 FDC set, on 1969 Flight Block 6 or 1971 Xmas Block 22 are just curios of little value going forward, as will be FDC's of these with less than a full set on them.

But what would an experienced dealer know of such things?? :)

Should still be able to send covers to the Philatelic Bureau as they also have a copy of the national FDI canceller & its usually available through them for about a month (or 2).

I don't think so. I am in NSW and have two privately owned P.O's that are within a 15min drive of me and an Australian Post owned 'APO Stamp Shop'.

Privately owned have yet to see the "Flood Stamps".

There will be very few FDC's seen originating outside of QLD

Can any recipient of a Registered (ideally with the BNE special cancel) cover with complete sheet affixed please scan it, and email to me please?

I'll add it to the next 'Stamp News' column I am doing this week, outining that these are truly stars of the future for those that ordered them.

First ever Charity issue, and first ever peel and stick only commem, and no official FDC offered - all a recipie for a $100+ cover.

Needs to be as high rez as possible please.

Clean scanner platen with Windex, and lay then face down, and then place the BACK of a Hagner carefully over the top, so there is a black edge on all sides. Scan at the highest rez you have.

Do not crop .. just email me the raw images front and back please -- so DO ensure you get them backstamped on arrival as that is crucial to prove they were really mailed day of issue, and not backdated, or ordered via the Philatelic back-dating service.

Thanks in advance Glen

If you missed out I will have a few spare unregistereds so get in quick.
If you have any Full Sheetlet of 10 unregistered left I'll take 2 please Peter.

If not I'll take 2 of what ever you have left.

Glen

No backstamp on plain envelope but can assure you I lined up twice at Brisbane GPO to buy stamps then get them stamped with FDI special postmarker.

Why "Exciting"? Well not being Registered, Melbourne will replicate exactly that for weeks to come. For half that start price.

Send them 1000 covers and your Mastercard number, and they'll cancel them and mail them back.

For the umpteenth time that almost no-one seems to get, REGISTERED is the only way to prove it was mailed Jan 27. Why on earth anyone went physically to the BNE GPO and did not Register it, is mind boggling.

Well, he now has the provenance of listing it on eBay a day after the FDI so that will probably cover for not being registered with this cover.

Use eBay as the proof!

Similarly, Allanswood's Goulburn cover and my Toowoomba covers have a Stampboards posting date stamp of 27th as proof - and we've all been told many times that these images will be here for a long time.
