HCRP Friends & Family Adventures
Friends & Family Adventures available in a variety of Adventure & Outdoor activities with Howard County Recreation & Parks! These small group programs include all equipment and are not just for beginners! Learn the basics of a new activity or refine your skills with our certified instructors! Some programs meet the Intro requirements for future HCRP programs.

A total of $135 covers up to three people in a Friends & Family Adventure. Then, you may add an additional one or two participants for $25 each. It will only be your family/small group of friends and the instructor during the program - this is a private lesson just for you!
Minimum age requirements apply depending on the activity. Under 16yrs must be accompanied by an adult; for some activities, an adult must also participate in the program.

Friends & Family Adventure – Rock Climbing
Learn the basics of rock climbing including equipment usage, safety on the wall, bouldering and climbing technique. No experience necessary and all equipment provided. HCRP staff will belay participants as they learn the new adventure sport of climbing on our towering 26-foot wall!
6yrs + / 1.5 hours / $135 includes two to three participants (one additional participant can be added for $25)

Friends & Family Adventure – Target Archery
Discover the basics of target archery or improve your skills with our certified instructors. Develop archery technique and form including elements of shooting, equipment use and range safety. Equipment supplied– lesson meets the prerequisite for HCRP target archery programs.
8yrs + / 1.5 hours / $135 includes two to three participants (additional participants can be added for $25 per participant with a maximum total of five participants)
Alpha Ridge Park or Centennial Park South

Friends & Family Adventure – Fishing
Learn how to fish in a fun, safe environment from one of our experienced instructors. Develop fishing skills in gear selection, knot tying, casting, fish identification and more in this freshwater fishing, catch and release program. Bait and equipment supplied.
8yrs + / 2 hours / $135 includes two to three participants (additional participants can be added for $25 per participant with a maximum total of six participants)
Centennial Park South

Friends & Family Adventure – Kayaking
Learn the techniques of paddling a kayak from our certified instructors. Discover the basics of the watercraft, proper paddle strokes, self-rescue, and gear selection. Equipment supplied– lesson meets the prerequisite for HCRP paddling programs. Under 16 must be accompanied by a participating parent/guardian.

We work  with you to schedule these Adventures around our existing programs but sometimes there are sections already available in our Registration system.
