Initiatives

Georgia Parent Advisory Council

The Georgia Parent Advisory Council works with the Prevention and Community Support Section (PCS) within the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) to help expand meaningful partnerships between parents and staff throughout the system. PCS is committed to promoting the voices of parents throughout its work to strengthen families, engage communities in child maltreatment and adolescent pregnancy prevention strategies and reduce the need for out-of-home placement of Georgia’s children.

Georgia Family Support Network

The Georgia Family Support Network (GFSN) is a network of state, county and community organizations dedicated to strengthening practices and policies that champion quality family support programs and services across our state. This network encourages members to work in partnership with families to implement evidence-based and best practice programs that build the 5 Protective Factors of the Strengthening Families Approach. Member organizations benefit from networking, access to tools, resources and potential funding and additional training and professional development for staff.

Safe Infant Sleep and Georgia’s Safe to Sleep Campaign

The Georgia Department of Public Health’s Safe Infant Sleep Program coordinates statewide public health interventions intended to protect infants from Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID) and other sleep-related causes of infant death. In 2016, public health, health care and community leaders came together to introduce the Georgia Safe to Sleep Campaign. With the support of its partners, the program provides tools and resources that strengthen policy, provides consistent education and changes infant sleep environments. Through partnership and collaboration, this campaign targets diverse groups in Georgia that contribute to an infant’s safety, health and well-being including parents, hospitals and health providers, statewide public health and safety organizations, families, caregivers, child care professionals and many others.
