Introduction

Thank you for your interest in obtaining the CivicLab's 2020 Chicago TIF Illumination summary. Our TIF Illumination Project has been investigating and exposing our out of control Tax Increment Financing program since 2013.

No one can tell you the complete story of Chicago's TIF system like we can. Understanding the TIF scam is FUNDAMENTAL to understanding the true state of Chicago's public finances. There can be no racial justice in Chicago as long as TIFS are running wild here.

At the beginning of 2021 there was a staggering $1.9 BILLION sitting in Chicago's TIF accounts!

We can tell you how much of THAT total came from majority Black wards.
