  • Bottle 075. Not quite how I remembered, this bottle displays significant dimensions, especially towards the minutes-long finish, at the expense of the prominence of flavors. The heat is so mellow, composed and nuanced. 96

  • Bottle 111. This bottle shows more stem and oak quality and is more gentle. Equally exciting, however. 96

  • Bottle 084. This is so pure, lightly woody with plenty of fruit and vanilla/exotic spice notes. Just a hint of grill afloat. On the palate immensely bodied, powerful and precise. 96

  • Pale gold color. Nose is a blast of peat smoke at first, though swirling and sniffing yields evergreens, iodine, seawater, toffee, cigar ash, bittersweet chocolate, paprika, and a slight maltiness. The palate is hot and fiery without dilution, becoming much more accessible with a splash of water. Throughout, there is an intense iodine flavor, with some topnotes of orange. This becomes high pitched at midpalate, ascending nearly to the rich sweetness of buttercream, before coming back down to a smoky, ashy, earthen base. This lingers with the smoky heat of charcoal, which ascends to fill the nasal chimney in the manner of English mustard. This does not contain multitudes but is instead possessed by an unyielding, focused intensity. Very good, in the Islay style. Bottle #113/115.
