Hugh told me a couple of months back it was "well advanced".

So fingers crossed.

If it is even half as good a tome as this below, we are to be ever grateful!

Still sell many copies of this superb previous work each year -

I've been holding on to a ton of NSW stuff (particularly Shields in quantity) for years just waiting for a decent book with up to date numeral and town datestamp rarity ratings to be released.

I may see him at the Philas auction tommorrow (he's often there) and if so I'll ask him the status as of now.

Thank you Tony.

As far as I'm aware there's never been a publication focusing on the rarity of New South Wales cancellations. I'm eagerly awaiting the release of Mr. Freeman's book :D

So am I. I just bought the "Postal history of NSW 1788-1901" J S White and found a page of all the issued Goulburn cancels as examples of the different ones used in NSW. Nice. :D

More covers and cancels to look for!

Hugh is not a member of Stampboards but he has read this thread and asks me to reply as follows:

'At the 27 March 2012 meeting of the Manly-Warringah Rugby League Club Stamp Club, in Brookvale, northern Sydney, at 8.00 pm, I intend to show some of the early pages, possibly to halfway, however still with publication as stated after 1 August.

This book, when finished, will show approximately 90% of the postmarks recorded, the exact % will be dependent on the number of pages allocated to the book by the publisher.'

Chris,
Hugh doesn't know anything about a forthcoming NSW town cancels book - only the Hopson and Tobin book published quite a few years ago (which doesn't include rarity ratings).

This book is a non-commercial, "not-for-profit" project and as such only sufficient copies to cover pre-publication orders will be produced. Is this a correct statement ? In other words it's get it now or you've had it.

I was giving an invited talk at Brookvale a day or two back on stamp storage and Stampboards, and Hugh Freeman was among those present (3rd in front row!) and he has been in contact several times since with me, re my order for the books.

I'll have plenty of stock, trust me. Have quite a few orders for it already. :)

Our member Graeme Morris not in shot - he was kindly taking the photos.

Philatelic books always have smallish print runs, however, I'm sure there will be more than sufficient to meet the orders for the foreseeable future as Hugh knows the uptake of his Vic. cancels book so can no doubt do a calculation based on that.

Neither. They'll print a tiny bit more than current orders, and play it safe I feel sure.

No.

Hugh tells me end August was the sked.

You "pre-ordered" so they charged all pre-orders made by July 31, and will ship when printed - in a few weeks. Hugh thinks he can drop my copies off personally.

Tight budget - the per 10 price went up to $120 apiece at last Committee Meeting.

Hugh advises there will be about 2000 COLOUR photos in the book, and it will be hard-bound similar to his Victoria postmarks opus.

 That's great news, I haven't seen his other works and didn't expect much in colour.

I'm sure the sales will do the same job, but thanks to Hugh (and no doubt contributors) for the enormous effort undertaken, I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Yes these will be highly sought after when the word gets out globally. VERY glad I pre-ordered and pre-paid my stock.

About 20 clients pre-ordered it off me already.

The much smaller, and not much colour 'GRI' hardbound book by Robert Gipps was done in a larger run, and gets $750+ apiece at auction already.

Agree Robert, near 400 pages hardbound, with 2000 colour illustrations, is simply as good as it gets.

I will have some packing of orders to do it seems, whilst watching the AFL matches this weekend.

Michael - please order as “stock code 637KR” if you require one.

http://www.glenstephens.com/order.html

Official Issue price $160 will be adhered to for all orders made in August. Then it will be adjusted thereafter initially to $A175, for any stock I still might have to hand.

~200 printed is extremely low, as there are probably 500 folks globally who will decide they need one. If so, you'll soon see $250 or so a copy being sought.

I'll do a detailed review in my next month's magazine columns, and that will sell 200 on its own most likely, as I also write in the UK magazines.

I have a feeling this will be a "must have" book. About 400 pages hardbound, and 2000 real cancel COLOUR illustrations is a corker. One half decent cancel find, once in a lifetime, will pay for it readily.

As I often type "Knowledge Is Power".

Several members have asked me if all the books are in fact all numbered, as the publicity material does not mention that - and to answer their question - YES THEY ARE. It shows the Edition was just 220 copies.

Machine numbered at printers as you can see.

220 for the world will see these as a most sought after volume when word finally gets around, and near all were bought by keen collectors, so it will be quite a while before they start to hit the secondary market!

I wonder why the limited edition and individually numbered details weren't on the advertising for this one :?:

They would have sold out way before this if that had been known.

And Glen's mention of Gibb's GRI book going at up to $750 a copy at auction may well be exceeded when these hit the market somewhere down the track

Tony, yes had I known they were all individually numbered of a Limited Edition, I'd have bought more I am sure. Surprised me, I must say. 8)

The Tim Ryback Auction sale example in recent times got $650 plus 16.5% fees = $757.50 .... on estimate $250 for his second hand Gipps "G.R.I" book.

I was later offered $800 for mine by a client, but declined.

Half the size of this, but again, only a couple 100 done, and not all in colour, so supply = demand. :)

Hugh tells me NSW scarcer postmarks already get high 3 figures, and told me today that about 10% of all the NSW postmarks are "NNS" numbers not seen - so there are massive chances of good finds, for those who have the book.

This a field awash with upward opportunity, as Victoria cds get well into the FOUR figures.

There is a computer CD Rom in with the book, for those interested.

After being a slightly greener shade than this --> last weekend after reading of those lucky enough to spend a whole weekend with the book, I made haste after work today and am now holding it in my hands. :) The dust jacket is in a polypropylene jacket mind you (books, another collecting affliction) for longevity.

This truly is an amazing resource. Thanks again to everybody involved, and also for the inclusion of the PDF, so I can carry it around in my pocket and on the tablet too.

I too was pleasantly surprised at the numbering.

If anybody is even thinking of buying a copy, do it before you regret it. :D

As soon as the book was mooted the prices started to climb. At the last few Philas auctions they were well sought after, which is always a good yardstick.

Lucky I kept all those that came my way over the years
