Julie Beyer, a faculty member of the University of Phoenix and a registered dietitian with a Master’s degree in Health Communication from Michigan State University, has been a featured speaker across the country on the topics of interstitial cystitis, self-publishing, and book marketing including the national education event for dietitians, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo in 2016. She is currently the Author's and Writer's Specialty Group Chair of the Academy's Nutrition and Entrepreneur's Specialty Group and has previously served as Editor of their award winning publication, Ventures. She is the author of four books and has served as book coach and editor of four more.
Drawing from personal experience with interstitial cystitis, Julie wrote her first book for IC patients in 2005. Confident Choices: Customizing the Interstitial Cystitis Diet provides valuable information about diet, stress management, and exercise, and continues to be a popular resource for interstitial patients around the world. Confident Choices: A Cookbook for IC and OAB is the long anticipated companion of that first book. Her third book about IC and diet, Interstitial Cystitis: A Guide for Nutrition Educators, provides the background and vocabulary that a dietitian or nurse would need to appropriately counsel IC patients on their dietary choices.
An activist in the interstitial cystitis community for nearly 20 years, Julie also provides dietary counseling to individuals and speaks at IC support groups and professional organizations around the country. She volunteers as a lead moderator for the Interstitial Cystitis Network, and writes about IC and diet for both the Interstitial Cystitis Network and the Interstitial Cystitis Association.
Passionate about writing, Julie has also published You CAN Write a Book: The No-Nonsense Guide to Self-Publishing and gives workshops at conferences and via webinars nationwide on the step-by-step process she has used to publish her books.

Welcome to the REBELution: 7 Steps to the Nutrition Counseling Practice of Your Dreams (2015) by Kait Fortunato and Rebecca Bitzer

- Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2012This book is perfect for the person living with IC and dietary restrictions. The author and her team spent countless hours compiling data, testing recipes, etc. The author also helped develop the famous 'food List' for IC patients. I have I C and use this book as a regular go to! As a side note: I had the priviledge to meet the author, Julie Beyer and she is extremely knowledgable on IC and diet. You cannot stump this woman. Definitely worth purchasing!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2016Very disappointed with the small selection of recipients, especially for the money. Not worth it, look for something else, or go online, Google ie: pot roast recipes, and just read different ones til you find a recipe that dosen't have the ingredients you have to avoid. That's what I've been doing, with great success.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 1, 2018After three years with pelvic pain and therapy, I now suspect IC is also a component of my flares. This well-laid out book is a very good resource for simple recipes that the entire family will eat. It's the best compilation of recipes I have seen on the topic, however, for some of us there are ingredients listed such as lemon juice, cranberries, strawberries, pear juice from a bottle, blueberries, yogurt, and possibly gluten that will cause flares. Hence the reason, I gave it 4 stars.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2015I bought this for my daughter. Since it is so difficult to diagnose IC, and they use the terms "IC like, " We really didn't know where to go with this disease and seeing and reading this book was extremely helpful. The great recipes from someone who knows and lives with IC was more of a help than I can express. Thank you, Julie Beyer!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2019This is a basic book about Interstital Cystitis. The recipes are good and easy. this is a great place to start
- Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2018First of all I hate spiral bound books. But even worse, the recipes provided reflected to me an old-fashioned way of eating...use of gluten, dairy & sugar. Many people with IC also have other food sensitivities. I gave up eggs, gluten, sugar, dairy years ago. I do better by searching the internet for recipes. Also the IC info given was very basic and available on the internet.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2018I Love this Recipe Book! I recommend it to anyone who has been diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis or Over-Active Bladder, etc., and even for people who do Not have one of these chronic diseases!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2010It's recipes are strictly written for the existing food list making many unsuspecting suffers feel that the recipes, even though they may have foods that they might not be able to tolerate, are now magically safe to ingest. IC is an individualized disease and as such some of us are able to eat for example a pear and others of us will be in flair hell from one bit!
In other words this book is not the solution for everyone. Be very careful with your choices. If a food has been known to cause you problems, it may still and if you make these recipes as they are written they could be a recipe for a flair!
As with everything in the IC survival world remember, it's your body and you know how it will react to the wrong foods.
Be cautious.
The author is known for her well placed wisdom when it comes to coping with IC and OAB.
As a fellow suffer of these illnesses I was eager to get my hands on this much needed cookbook to navigate me through the painful pitfalls of eating the wrong foods which result in a flair. However, It did not meet my needs, maybe it will be a good fit for you.
I also felt that the lack of nutritional breakdowns was another downside to this book. Everyone reads labels for the content, especially if you suffer from IC or related illnesses.
