Sexual and Interpersonal Violence (SIV) required training for student organizations- this includes all student organizations, club sports, and greek organizations!
Student organization officers must attend this training as a part of the annual registration process. Each group must send four officers to one of these training sessions, however each officer must register for themselves. You do not need to attend the same session.
Who has to participate?
Each organization will need to send four officers or members. Typically we are looking for the top 4 executive board positions such as: President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. Your organization can substitute another officer or member in place of those officers. All groups must have four people attend this training each year.
What if I am an officer/member in more than one group?
Send someone else in your place for the other group. Our goal is to get as many students through these programs, because awareness of policy and bystander intervention techniques is the best practice in prevention work. All groups must have four people attend training each year.
What if I already attended through work on campus?
If an officer has already received full training (1+ hour) since August 1st, your organization can send another officer/member in their place. You can also choose a program you have NOT been to before.
We are not a funded organization, do we still have to do training?
Yes.
What if we have a small group and all of our members or officers have been through training?
You can choose from one of the other options.
When is this due?
As soon as possible! Generally it is something we expect our students to do as a part of the recognition and registration process for clubs and organizations. However, we also know that new clubs start all the time and some clubs get new officers, etc. That is why we offer the training year round.
You can also e-mail
Lisa.Evaneski@oswego.edu and ask for an exception if you can explain why it is warranted.
Email Lisa if your group or department is not listed in the drop down menu below.
Note: Bystander Intervention is sponsored by the Dean of Students office. Email
shelly.sloan@oswego.edu for more information.
