Jam & Groove Workshop for Strings 2024

13 weekly classes on Tuesdays @ 4:30-5:00pm, beginning 2/20/24

Instructor: Duane Padilla

TUITION: $375 for 13 sessions

Pre-requisite: a minimum playing level of Suzuki book 4, or 3 years of experience in a school orchestra program

JAM & GROOVE WORKSHOP FOR STRINGS is for students who have reached an intermediate level of playing and wish to explore improvisation and creative music making. Unlike traditional orchestra and chamber music classes where students perform pieces by following sheet music, multi-styles string class empowers students to create music from the inside out.  In these “jam-session” classes, students will work towards developing a “creative musicians’ tool kit”. Students will learn how to create harmony and groove through extended techniques like strumming, chopping (a bow technique that simulates a drum set), and laying down bass lines. Students will also explore improvising melodies and harmonizing existing melodies. The skills in this musical tool kit will help students create their own arrangements of songs in a wide variety of genres that includes gypsy swing, celtic, bluegrass, jazz, blues, pop and any other styles of interest to the class. Perfect for any string student (violin, viola, cello or bass) who wants to explore improvisation and creative music making.
