Jack Tripper Stole My Dog is the comedic, existentialist journey about Ivan, a Russian-born taxi driver from Brooklyn and how he mismanaged the triumvirate of women in his life: his wife, his daughter, and his lover. His struggles are not much like your own -- his life included a long history of lying, cheating, gossiping, infidelity, hijinks, incest, war, John Lennon murder conspiracies, suicide attempts, a bizarre and sick love triangle, turmoil, redemption, personal reflection, torture, murder, revenge and more redemption. The characters are a mixture of scorned lovers, psycho stalkers, literate pugnacious lesbians, Bill Gates, serial killers, the KGB, canine tossing, an Ecstasy-popping Hollywood director, a drug-peddling Mossad Agent, porn, date rapists, the Russian mafia, nefarious hippie bands, more junkies and drunks that you can shake a stick at, trick-turning Catholic high school girls, Jesus Freaks, swinging Upper East Side housewives, Internet disinformation, a trans hot dog vendor, a heroin-smuggling minister, and of course, the CIA.

Paul 'Dr. Pauly' McGuire is the author of five novels and the best-selling Lost Vegas. Originally from NYC, he lived in L.A. for a decade and now resides in Denver, Colorado.

McGuire spent twenty years as a gambling reporter, traveling from Las Vegas to Monte Carlo to Melbourne, documenting the poker circuit. He also covered the gambling side of the NFL and NBA. His latest novel, The Kicker, delves into the dark underworld of gambling and pro football.

McGuire's other novels — Fried Peaches, Guard This, and Faded — tell the stories of defiant artists, musicians, and writers caught in the grind of late-stage capitalism. His novels explore the tension between survival and authenticity in a world that keeps moving faster and caring less.

Whether you're picking up your first Pauly novel or your fifth, you'll find yourself among the provocative artists who create because they must, even as the world crumbles around them.

This is a book full of depravity and deviance. If you want puppies, unicorns, and happily ever afters, this isn't for you. But, if you want a glimpse of the dark side of NYC, this is a very engaging book, and difficult to put down.

Ivan's life is a car wreck--you can't help but to look. And you can't wait to see what happens next.

If you are into tales that lean toward the seedier side, this is a book for you. Paul McGuire is like a new age Charles Bukowski, mixed with some Hunter S. Thompson and contemporary writers like Irvine Welsh and/or Chuck Palahniuk mixed in for good measure.

The book is about Russian-born, Brooklyn immigrant Ivan and his messed up life. Without giving away too much, McGuire blends Ivan's life with chapters about the people Ivan meets as a cab and limo driver in NYC. The book takes place in 2002, just after 9/11, which adds some color and context to the story.

I couldn't put this book down and finished it in a few days. Enjoy!

Talk about deviant...Ivan is one messed up dude who you can't help but love...and pity at the same time. A real fun, fast paced read about NYC in 2002 from the eyes of a Russian taxi driver who has seen and done it all. Well written and funny, sad, exciting, depressing...and that's on every page.

I'm a big fan of Mr. McGuire!

Even though it seem as though a host of 9/11 truths that we now know as fact escape him (ie-Israels' HUGE responsibility in the murders of that day--most of us Jews now know the truth of what happened) its always pleasing to read yet another book from a huge Phish fan who is smarter than every attendee at every other show put together.

Read this. Read Lost Vegas. You won't be disappointed!

A book-length telling of the Aristocrats joke, interspersed with the lengthy ramblings of a late-night subway car filled with crazy people. Whether you like the book probably depends on how appealing this description sounds.

If you love New York City, you will love Jack Tripper Stole My Dog. If you hate New York City, you will love Jack Tripper Stole My Dog. But NYC is just the gritty backdrop to a truly fascinating collection of character studies from the dirty underside of life. Much like his previous novel "Lost Vegas," Pauly has spent far too much time with these cranked up characters, which means we get to see and hear them in all their gory glory. Who knows what the experience does to the author but we can reap the benefits without actually touching the disease. Well worth the read. I wonder which city comes next on the Paul McGuire Hit Parade?

This is a great read. The depths of despair and degeneration are explored by a cabbie. A thrill ride of craziness ensues...
