Jeff Walton Quartet - L.A. Album Release Party!

Just back from New York City and Boston, the Jeff Walton Quartet plays its first ticketed show in Los Angeles to celebrate the release of PACK ANIMALS - the debut album of saxophonist, composer, and educator Jeff Walton.

Called "fun and memorable... with a range of moods and layers of meaning," PACK ANIMALS came about through nature's best deadline - the arrival of Jeff's first son, Julius. About to turn 40, a baby on the way, his school music program in its 10th year, Jeff decided it was time to finally lay down the music he'd been developing in NYC for the previous decade!

Jeff Walton lived in NYC for 18 years, where he founded the first band program for Uncommon Schools and also performed at venues including Carnegie Hall, the Stone, the Naumberg Bandshell at Central Park, the Groove, Village Underground, ShapeShifter Lab, and others. In December Jeff moved to with his wife, the writer Charly Simpson; their son, Julius; and their dog, George. (George has a song on the album dedicated to him.)

Jeff's music reflects not only his roots in jazz saxophone but also the path he has taken - teaching English to international adults, writing classical music, singing in choirs, learning new instruments, and teaching drill-rap beats to middle schoolers.

At the Earl on July 1, Jeff will be joined by Jake Chapman on vibraphone, Eli Heath on bass, and Nate Friedman on drums. Come support these independent musicians at a fantastic arts venue - sip on a drink, meet new people, and enjoy the music!

Frequently asked questions

Will there be drinks served at the show?

Yes, beer and wine along with non-alcoholic drinks will be available at the Earl's speakeasy bar.

What kind of music will Jeff and the quartet be playing?

We will be playing music that I wrote over 15 years of living in New York City, with influences ranging from Thelonious Monk to Luther Vandross, from Claude Debussy to Chaka Kahn. This music will be interpreted spontaneously for you by bad-asses Jake Chapman, Eli Heath, and Nate Friedman.

Does the venue have parking?

The venue does not have a lot, but there are side streets near the venue where I usually find parking less than a 3 min. walk away. The Earl is in a central neighborhood so we advise leaving time to find parking.

I can't make the show on July 1... how can I still support Jeff and the music?

Thanks for asking! You can buy a CD or download of PACK ANIMALS at https://jeffwalton.bandcamp.com/album/pack-animals. You can also stream Jeff's singles watch his YouTube videos (and share what you like on social media!). Please follow Jeff @jeffreydwalton on IG and www.jeffwalton.nyc.

Can I buy the album PACK ANIMALS at the show?

Yes! CD's and digital downloads will be sold at a whopping 50% discount at the venue.
