Leon Searcy was an All-American at Miami who won three national championship titles with the Hurricanes. He was a first round draft pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers, and played in Super Bowl XXX. He was also selected as one of the Top 25 Jacksonville Jaguars players of all time. Read Leon's stories about a life of luxury and glory as the NFL's highest paid offensive lineman, and the series of choices and circumstances which ended with Leon's retirement from the game of football broke and alone. In the 4th down of his life, how did Leon find redemption? I’ve known Leon Searcy since he got to the University of Miami. I’ve seen his highs and lows up close. But I never knew the extent of his childhood sadness and anger nor did I realize the amount of personal anguish in his family and in his relationships; not to mention all the money he spent before he took one step on an NFL field and thereafter. I’m happy to call Leon a friend. Glad he got this straightened out! I totally recommend reading this book whether you are a football fan or not. It’s gut wrenching!!

Probably the best rags to riches back to rags again story of an athlete yet….very easy read to…glad leon got going again..but i’m sure there will be others or have been…whose stories haven’t been told yet…new money:staying rich by phillip buchanon was a good one as well…

Knowing a lot of Leon’s story, from a fan’s perspective, I found the day to day life stories to be better than the college, football and endorsement stories I knew. This should be required reading at the Rookie Symposium each year!

I took my time reading this and getting to know all the people that encouraged and shaped Leon's life. I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Five stars isn’t enough! I’d give it so much more! Before I finished it, I was recommending it to friends.

Very good inside view from a player. What he went through financially and mentally.

No matter where we are in life we all experience difficulties and we need someone to care for us who expects nothing in return. This book showed there's opportunity to be that person who gives and expects nothing in return.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent book about a less than decent guy

A seemingly "warts and all" tale of life in the NFL, Leon does not come across as a likable guy most of the time which makes it a bit of a tough reward as I e red up rooting again st him. Still interesting though and fairly zips along.
