This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach high school English to students with learning disabilities. My students all vary in their ability level. However, the ultimate goal is to increase all students literacy levels. This includes their reading, writing, and communication levels.
I teach a really dynamic group of students.
However, my students face a lot of challenges. My students all live in poverty and in a dangerous neighborhood. Despite these challenges, I have students who have the the desire to defeat these challenges.
My students all have learning disabilities and currently all are performing below grade level. My students are visual learners and will benefit from a classroom that fulfills their preferred learning style.
My Project
A document camera will allow me to teach to their learning style. I want to use the document camera to be able to display textbook material and worksheets on the white board. Having the worksheets on the board will allow me to make class interactive. Students can see me as I model how to do certain concepts.
My students benefit from seeing me work through examples. Often times they need several examples to be modeled before doing independent work. This will allow me to save time from writing material on the board and having students do work with me as I model it.
I also would like to have students be able to share their work in the class using the document camera.
This donation will make me class more accessible and provide the accommodations in the classroom for my students.
The students will be able to improve their literacy skills by having me demonstrate in class.
