Hello!

We are a team of NewGen Peacebuilders from across public, private and charter high schools in Santa Rosa, California. We were able to participate in the NewGen Peacebuilders program with scholarship support from The Rotary Club of Santa Rosa. Thank you for visiting the NewGen Peacebuilders Donation page for our project "Plant Roots of Peace."

Through the NewGen Peacebuilders training and mentoring program, we learned how to create effective peace projects in response to local and global conflicts. Our research focused on landmines. It's estimated that every 22 minutes a man, woman or child is killed or maimed - often due to landmines from past wars. In the Quang Tri province of Vietnam halfway between Hanoi and Saigon, more than 80 percent of the land has been mined in the past. Farmers and their families in this small, poor province are at risk when they bring in their harvests, and lots of land still needs to have mines removed for the land to be usable.

Please Help Us "Plant Roots of Peace" and Heal the Wounds of War
We're partnering with the amazing nonprofit Roots of Peace www.rootsofpeace.org. Founder and CEO Heidi Kuhn was inspired by Princess Diana's landmine charity work almost 20 years ago. In April, during International Landmines Awareness Month, Heidi was at a special gathering at Kensington Palace when Prince Harry called for an end to the use of landmines by 2025. The Roots of Peace organization has helped groups in 10 countries remove landmines and start sustainable agriculture projects. For our "Plant Roots of Peace" project, the funds we raise are designated to help farmers cultivate land and grow black pepper trees in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam. These farming projects are an opportunity to earn income for themselves, families, and communities.

Our Goal: 50 Farmers
Our project is a way to heal wounds of war and help a community transform through peacebuilding. With every $300 raised, we can supply one farmer with seeds, organic fertilizer, agricultural tools, and basic training. We've set a goal of raising $15,000 for 50 farmers. The Roots of Peace organization will, in turn, seek matching funds to make sure farmers receive sustainability training support over three years.

Please join us – every dollar helps. Be sure to forward the link from our page to anyone you think might be interested!

The Human Race and Beyond
We started this journey by participating in the Human Race of Sonoma County, California, a Walk/Run on May 6 that supports nonprofit projects where we live www.humanracenow.org/Participation/PlantRootsofPeace#. But we're not sharing our story ONLY in the community where we will. Landmines are a global issue. We're inviting anyone who cares about peace, anywhere in the world, to support our peace efforts . . .

Our project has nonprofit status through NewGen Peacebuilders, which is the organization that facilitated our peace education and training. If you donate through this page, your contribution is tax-deductible. If you have any questions, please email: info@newgenpeace.org with the subject line: Plant Roots of Peace.

Thank you!
