REGULARLY SCHEDULED COMMITMENTS
ART ROOM *
Assist the art teacher with preparation and display of artwork in the Art Room during school hours.  Work with art teacher for a schedule.
BOOK ROOM *
Responsible for organizing and re-shelving materials in the Resource Room as well as stamping, taping and labeling new books that may arrive during the year.  Is done during the school day, but can work at your convenience.
CLINIC HELPER *
Make up baggies of ice for injuries and help with blanket washing (as needed).
 COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE: *
Provides students and families with the opportunity to participate in one-time and ongoing service projects that benefit our community.
MEDIA CENTER VOLUNTEER: *
Help in the library during school hours.
PUBLISHING SHOP: *
Staffed by the PTO to help students publish their writings.  There are three ways to help:                                                                   1. Work in the publishing shop 10:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M. or 1:00-3:00 P.M. any day of the week. 2. Make covers for the books at home with supplies that are bagged and ready for you to take home.  3. Donations of fabric, cardboard, craft items, glue/glue sticks, duck tape, stickers and foamy letters are ALWAYS welcome even if you don’t sign up!
SHOEBOX SCIENCE *
A program that sends simple science experiments home for students and parents to do together. Volunteers (No science degree required!) are needed to: 1. Help refill and distribute the experiments to students on Wednesday mornings (from 9-10:30) from Oct –April.    2. Restock supply boxes - in the PTO room, or take home a “refill kit”!
 SPEECH, TITLE READING/MATH and SPECIAL EDUCATION: *
Assist teachers in these areas with copying, cutting, laminating, book organization, and miscellaneous small jobs.
Take A Taste Thursday *
Prepare and distribute items for students to try during lunch one Thursday a month. Past items include: cucumber, papaya, blueberries, etc.
PROJECTS, PROGRAMS, and SPECIAL EVENTS
ART SHOW *
Help prepare for the spring art show held in mid-May.  Duties include mounting artwork on display boards, decorating the gym, serving refreshments during the show, and dismantling the show.
ART TO REMEMBER: *
Help collect & place orders and/or distribute these AMAZING art orders.
BOOK FAIR: *
Work (set up, monitor and take down) at the school book fair.  Help is needed both during school hours and in the evening.
COMMUNITY BUILDING: *
Help welcome new and incoming families to Norwich.  This committee hosts 3 or 4 family events through the year.  Past events have included Fall Outing, Pancake Breakfast and Family Game Night.
 FIELD DAY: *
Staff various game stations for a morning/afternoon shift in late May.
HOP-A-THON: *
Be on the committee to plan the Hop-A-Thon.
INTERMEDIATE YEAR-END PARTY *
Help plan, organize, and supervise the year-end party for the intermediate students.  Party is during school hours during the last week of school.
KINDERGARTEN SCREENING: *
Two to three volunteers are needed for morning or afternoon to assist the incoming kindergartners during screening on a single day in March/April.
MUSIC PROGRAMS (SCENERY): *
Assist Ms. Kennedy with designing and creating the scenery for your child’s Team Music Program.
NORWICH FAMILY FAIR: *
Help is needed to staff games and crafts, to help with ticket sales, to sell food and to help with the silent auction at this event filled with fun for the entire family.
PTO FUNDRAISERS: *
We will have fund raisers throughout the year.
TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK: *
Help plan special activities during one week in May in appreciation of the staff and/or bake or cook items for the staff
TEACHER HOSPITALITY: *
Prepare and bring in food for the teacher conference night dinners held twice a year.
VISION AND HEARING SCREENING: *
Help with the vision and hearing screenings in the fall during school hours.  The volunteer will escort the children from their classroom to the room where the nurses are doing vision and hearing screening.
WELLNESS ACTIVITIES: *
Meet once a month before school to plan various projects. Parents can sign up to be on the committee OR to help with occasional nutrition, fitness, safety, or other health-related projects as needed.
