It’s the Open Road Adventure – Bankhead Highway
The ORA – BANKHEAD is a tire leanin’, watch’ in close, fun Saturday Rally with fellow Car enthusiasts in all types of vehicles. It’s a course following, sign spotting, most beautiful roads in North Texas Rally. Expect mountains (well, what we call mountains in Texas, anyway), swerved roads, views of lakes, country stores and Armadillos.
- Rally Day: Saturday, Sept. 18th, 2010
- Starting Place: Skinny’s Hamburgers, 504 Palo Pinto Street, Weatherford, Texas 76086 www.skinnyshamburgers.com Yeah, it’s a little ways out, but hey who wants to rally in downtown !
- Registration: 9:45 to 10:30A on Rally Day
- Rally School: 10:30 to 10:45A
- Starting Time(1st Car out): 11:00A
- Finish Time, estimated: 3:30P
- Route: It’s a secret, of course, but expect to drive on sections of the historic Bankhead Highway.
- Vehicles: Sports Cars, Classic Cars, Antiques, Hot Rods, Cruisers, Speedsters, anything with 4 wheels that’s street legal goes in this Rally.
- Rally Fee: $30.00 SCCA Members: $20.00 $5.00 late fee if not preregistered at www.timyurl.com/ORA10msr . Fee includes a Rally Gift Bag for each starter.
- Awards for the usual SCCA Classes, as well as Door Prizes.
- Rally Masters: Bob & Adam Harris, winners of numerous SCCA and Great Race rallies.
All on paved roads, at legal speeds and … the most fun you can have outside the track !
Come run on the historic BANKHEAD HIGHWAY, an early transcontinental road built in the teens and 20’s, yes, even before Route 66. It ran from Washington, DC to and San Diego. It was part of the National Auto Trailsystem and now the Texas Historic Highway as part of the new state Historic Roads and Highways Program. The BANKHEAD had a Southern route through Texas and believe it or not, there are parts of the Road left in drivable condition around Weatherford, Texas.
If you’ve ever run 66 or just dreamed of it, here’s your chance to run even an older Americana Highway. See historic Courthouses, 80 year old bridges and early century gas stations on The BANKHEAD with the fun of an Auto Rally. Rally themes include; Mountains, Ranches, Sheriffs & The BANKHEAD

Texas Region SCCA (www.texasscca.org) is affiliated with the Sports Car Club of America (www.scca.org). With nearly 50,000 members, and with Regions all over the US, the club offers car related activities in a broad range of automotive events.
A road rally is not a contest of speed or racing. The challenge is to follow a prescribed course at legal speeds and to read signs and landmarks along the route to find answers to questions supplied by the organizers.
This is the fifth event in the 2010
a projected six event championship of entertaining road rallies.

This rally is sanctioned as a Regional Rally by SCCA, and a part of the National SCCA RoadRally Championship. Sanction Number 2010-RG-41-06.

Event requirements
There must be at least 2 people in every rally car. The driver must have a valid driver's license and proof of insurance. The car must be in good mechanical condition. If one of the rally car occupants is a minor (under 18 years old), that person must have an SCCA "Minor Release" signed by both parents in the presence of either the rally registrar or a Notary Public. The form is available from rally@texasscca.org, or at registration.
