The course aims to consolidate the bushcraft skills and knowledge of the participant. It is a field oriented course with most of the time spent in the outdoors. It is for those who have done the Intermediate Bushcraft course, (or similar training) or who have extensive experience in the bush and want to really develop their skills. A weekend overnight trip includes a tramp with a full pack involving significant off track travel.
Participants must be fit to travel for approximately eight hours across hill country, mostly off track, with a full pack.
This meets the requirements of the gold Duke of Edinburgh journey training but is not exclusively for this. Adult bushcraft training is catered for and will be seperate from the youth groups.
On completion, the participant will have an experience of:
* How to operate in an environmentally responsible manner
* Off-track navigation and route finding with and without a compass
* Advanced leadership skills in emergency situations
* Travelling on steeper terrain and tracks above the bushline where snow is not likely to be encountered
* Acting as party leader
* Lighting an emergency fire
* Using natural bivvies and/or flysheets for shelter
