About the author

Shirley Weir introduces herself as a Menopause Chick. Sore boobs, sleep deprivation, depression and brain fog led Shirley to her doctor’s office, the book store and “Dr. Google,” but she was left feeling confused, overwhelmed and alone. So she created Menopause Chicks to empower women to talk openly about perimenopause and menopause. Now she leads a private online community with an average of 15,000 questions and comments every month. Women regard the group as a trustworthy space to get their questions answered and to confirm they are not alone.

Sandra Shamus’s “noun” YouTube video really made me laugh! Cup of tea, my cozy blanket and Mokita a perfect afternoon. Thank you for writing Shirley.

It has really helped me navigate this stage of my life. It is well written and a very easy read. I particularly like how all the different experts have different chapters. I am extremely lucky that a lot of those experts actually work in my community. I've already made an appointment with one of them.

- Reviewed in Canada on February 25, 2024Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseBought this book thinking it would be helpful, but honestly the way we keep being told here that we don't have symptoms and we are not struggling that we should be calling it a life phase and experience is all very dismissive to me. Just because it is something we need to go through doesn't mean it is easy for everyone. Some people struggle to find medical help in their province. All she focused on was the negative perception around menopause, well it isn't fun for most of us so allowing people to feel how they feel about it, should be ok! This book is a waste of money.

After reading the book, I happily recommend it to all my friends, and I pull it out as a resource often. Highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is a must read.
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThis book is a great discussion starter with wonderful bits of helpful information and guidance. During mid life women go through so many changes and with that can come suffering. For each of us,every path to a healthier, happier journey is different and so many of those paths seem to be limited by the lack of discussions and knowledge on how to navigate this season. This book gives insight, data, encouragement and guidance on how to create a dialogue with yourself and others to navigate mid life with more ease and grace. We are not meant to suffer. We are meant to thrive not just survive. This isnt our moms book on "the change". It is a book to teach you to become your own advocate and cheerleader while opening a new way of seeing this time in our lives and coming together to see it as an extension rather then an ending.
