Our Dog Lucca: A funny, short, picture scrapbook Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 10 ratings

Lucca is a cuddly Cocker Spaniel dog who belongs to a woman named TC. "I love TC very much," reads the caption on one photo. "And she loves Lucca...."

This ebook collects pictures with clever captions into a quick look at the life of a very happy pet dog. You'll see what Lucca likes, the funny places he chooses to sleep, and even catch a glimpse of the day that a white cat moved in downstairs! "Our Dog Lucca" takes you on a visit to that happy house where Lucca lives - and introduces you to a very charming dog.

Reader's Digest chose Moe Zilla for their list of the "20 Best Reads of 2011." He appeared in the #4 position, right behind Woody Allen (and above Roseanne Barr and Christopher Hitchens). And he also writes one of Amazon's best-selling blogs about the Kindle -- a blog called simply "Me and My Kindle." (Plus a fun spin-off blog reviewing children's picture books called "Review-Land".)

But Moe Zilla has also created a new kind of ebook for Amazon's Kindle Store. He's pioneered the fun "rhyming mystery" format in a story about talking turkeys who are trying to escape on Thanksgiving Day. And he's published a charming "short picture scrap book" about a loveable rescue dog that his family adopted. "Our Dog Lucca" is both funny and touching - and an example of the fun new experiences that an author can deliver through a Kindle ebook!

I get Moe Zilla's "Me and My Kindle" blog, and he mentioned this book, so I bought it. It's technically for a small child, but I thought it was fun. This is very, very cute.

I downloaded this scrapbook to my Desktop PC in April last year from Amazon UK and felt compelled to write a review there straightaway. I'd like to share with you how I felt then (and still do).

At that time another reviewer was disappointed with the unprofessional appearance due to anecdotal captions and the varied sizes, orientation and so on, of the photos. To my mind they completely missed the point. I think the beauty of this scrapbook is that it is exactly that - a scrapbook.

We are invited to share moments with the gorgeous Lucca, loved by TC whom Moe Zilla loves very much. Although there is only one photo per page with a fair amount of white space and some (intended?) blank pages when I view it on my Kindle for PC, there are plenty of photos - with captions - to drool over. As I look through the photos I somehow experience the feelings that those who know Lucca would have when they look at them. The warmth and shared love exudes from the pages.

If the photos had been edited to create a set where all were of perfect quality, of equal size and just in colour, the scrapbook would have lost its authenticity and its artistic appeal. As it is, I find it an endearing believable scrapbook and couldn't help but warm to Lucca (and the pussycat!).

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute photos but looks home made

I am a big softie when it comes to dogs or anything to do with dogs so when I read the description of this book I immediately downloaded it.

I expected lots of cute photos of Lucca with very funny captions, much like the infamous LOL Cats. The photos of Lucca are cute, he does look to be a lovely dog. However, the photos look like they are just snaps taken by a doting owner of their dog who is doing fairly normal things such as sleeping on the couch, waiting on the pavement. Having said that, the one where Lucca is lying on the remote control is definitely the best of the bunch and would have worked very well with a funny caption.

The photos are all different sizes, as you navigate through the pages they go from small to large, portrait to landscape, black and white to coloured. A better continuity between the size and quality of the photos would have resulted in a more professional finish for this ebook.

Some of the captions are endearing but they are very much like home written anecdotes that you might write next to a series of pictures that are posted onto a social networking site.

It will only take you a couple of minutes to browse through the pages of photos and captions.

As a self publishing effort, well done and thank you to Moe Zilla for having a go and for letting us share in the life of her lovely dog Lucca.
