Port Angeles School District AmeriCorps

The Port Angeles School District AmeriCorps program will provide individual member placement in one of nine school locations with further opportunities to serve in partner agencies (Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe and Boys & Girls Club of the Olympic Peninsula, YMCA and the 4-H Extension), in Port Angeles, Washington. (Port Angeles is located in the upper northwest tip of the United States in the heart of Olympic National Park, bordered by the Straits of Juan de Fuca, and across the water from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.) A team of 16 AmeriCorps members will provide focused and strategic intervention in the form of academic tutor and mentor support to at risk and struggling students, kindergarten through high school levels, during the school day, after school, and during a summer session. They will provide one-on-one and small group support during the school day in the classroom or dedicated tutoring area as assigned by school principal(s). Academic support focus may be in the areas of reading, writing, math or science. Members will also participate in AmeriCorps Team activities, training and service projects. Through a commitment to service, teamwork and education, members will have the opportunity for personal growth and to make a positive impact on students, our schools and community.
