"Lisa, your grandfather has leukemia.”
Every five minutes someone in the United States is diagnosed with blood cancer and hears the life-changing diagnosis that my family heard in 1990. We lost him to the devastating disease three months later. He was just 63.
When The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) was initially founded, a blood cancer diagnosis was almost always fatal. Thanks in large part to innovative research funded by LLS, survival rates have quadrupled for blood cancer patients – meaning so many families have not had to endure the tragic loss that my family did.
So you can understand my passion and commitment to LLS - the world’s leading charity organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. LLS's mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
My personal commitment to LLS led me to be part of the 2012 Georgia Chain Gang, an 8-person cycling team that successfully completed Race Across America (RAAM) – covering 3,000 miles and 170,000 vertical feet of climbing in six days and raising almost $175,000 for LLS. To all of my friends, family and colleagues who supported our efforts in 2012, THANK YOU!
I am honored to once again be taking on the challenge of RAAM – known as the world’s toughest bicycle race – as part of the 2014 Georgia Chain Gang … this time with the ambitious goal of raising more than $250,000 for LLS. Starting on June 14th, we’ll race non-stop from Oceanside, CA to Annapolis, MD … all in the name of a cure.
THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN ... AND CAN HELP ME MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE IN THE FIGHT AGAINST BLOOD CANCERS.
I have a personal goal of raising more than $12,500 for the cause - and I hope you will make a tax-deductible donation in support of my efforts.
We are truly pedaling with a purpose – and I thank you in advance for your generosity and support!
- Lisa
