Welcome to Running4

Dedicated to Running4 Cancer Research
"A little in abundance is a lot"
A Message from Steve Sodergren

Welcome to Running4. My name is Steve Sodergren, and like you I dream of a time when we will live in a cancer-free world. I continually find myself inspired by the fighting spirit of those who have been affected by this disease, so I have decided to dedicate my running to raising funds for cancer research.

As a marathon runner, I have set a goal of raising $26,200, or $1,000 for each mile of a marathon. While working toward this goal, my plan is to run in the Boston and New York City Marathons and donate 100% of all gifts to the official cancer charity partners of these two events.

As you consider contributing to help me reach this goal, I pledge to you that every penny will be donated to the aforementioned organizations. I will personally be covering the expenses associated with running the races and will be making a significant monetary contribution as well.

My other promise to you is that whenever I am Running4 those who have been affected by cancer I will carry their spirit and inspiration in my heart with every step while also praying for them, their families, their caregivers, and those who are searching for a cure.

Thank you for your support!

Running4 - OUR MISSION

Running4 is a grassroots initiative whose purpose is to raise awareness and funds for cancer research by pairing Our Heroes who have been affected by cancer with Our Runners who commit to Running4 them.  Harnessing the power of social media, our preliminary goal is to raise $26,200, with 100% of all gifts being donated to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, where the world's brightest minds are working feverishly every day to eradicate this horrible disease.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

  • Nominate your Hero and commit to encouraging your family and friends to donate in their honor by sharing their picture and story on the "Our Heroes" page.  We also invite you to post your own Running4, Walking4, Biking4, Serving4, Praying4 (be creative!) pictures on our Facebook page.

  • Sign up to Run With Us and commit to Running4 our Heroes.  Your picture and bio will be featured on the "Our Runners" page, where you can share the story of who you are Running4.  We would also ask that you encourage your family and friends to donate in support of your Heroes.

  • Donate to the cause.  We will not be a "hard sell" movement, but will simply operate under the belief that people will be inspired to give what they can from the heart.

A RUNNER'S VISION

What are you running for?"  The question comes with increasing regularity, and the answers have heretofore been equally predictable.  "I am running for my health.  I am running for my sanity.  I am running for the ability to eat anything I want without feeling guilty."  While certainly valid, all variations on the same self-centered theme.

Running for myself.

Then one day, The Epiphany.  When you run, you have a lot of time to think deeply profound thoughts, and one day the thought comes.  "Shouldn't I use this blessing that I have been given to help others?"  You think about all of the courageous Heroes in your life who bravely face the scourge of cancer, and their inspiration takes hold of your heart. "Enough is enough. Cancer's gotta go."

The usual doubts and fears creep in. "I'm not a fundraiser. I don't like to ask people for money. I can't do this."  Then you realize something.  The Heroes boldly face their fears, and you should do the same.  "I should be running for them. Yes, I can do this."

And Running4 is born.

Until the day when cancer has been conquered, I will be out running the roads and trails to raise funds for cancer research.  Rain or Shine.

Will you join me?
