We want the public Sports Park of Imperial Beach, including the baseball fields and skate park, to remain a free, public space. We are against any action which would make skaters pay for access to the Skate Park and would raise the fees of the local Little League baseball. We want the city officials to explore alternative options with the public.

The overwhelming majority of the public opposes privatization of the sports park. The local Little League and softball league community is strongly against it. The free Skate Park was built with grant money from the Tony Hawk Foundation, which rejects the city making any fees for skaters. Tony Hawk himself said the whole point of the park was to be free access for all ages. We call on the city officials to stop any handing over of the sports park to the YMCA who plans to raise fees. We ask that City Council and Staff vote to work with citizen groups on exploring alternatives for future funding.
