What Steps Do We Take Now?
Based on feedback from the three surveys, two parish gatherings, and further drafting work, a drafting team has created a new draft of our Parish Mission Statement & Motto along with a draft of our vision, based on that Mission Statement.

To remind you, our parish mission statement is our statement of identity. It says who we are, what grounds us, and also how we are distinctive from other faith communities. St. John's Parish Vision is our articulation of where we believe God is calling us based upon that statement of identity.

This survey is designed to gather (hopefully!) final feedback on the draft of our Mission & Vision. It is also your opportunity to offer up your ideas for concrete steps our congregation can take in the next several years to pursue our sense of God's calling to us.

Your individual survey responses, with your name included, will be shared as a part of the packet of all responses to this survey, along with a summary of the responses, in the E-Newsletter on Thursday, October 10—so please fill out the survey no later than Sunday, October 6. The Vestry Task Force will then review these responses and decide whether we can indeed say we are done with the work on the Missions & Vision and also help to create a second survey where you will have an opportunity to prayerfully choose those concrete next steps submitted by your fellow parishioners that you believe would be faithful at this time in our parish life.

And here is our draft Vision Statement – Where we believe God is calling us based upon our identity in the Mission Statement.

The teachings of Jesus call us at St. John’s Episcopal Church to cultivate a community where each one of us can know who we are as beloved children of God. The more we open ourselves to God’s love, we realize the grace-filled truth that every person we meet is likewise beloved. We envision a church where all people—no matter who they are, who they love, who they vote for, or what language they speak—can find grace and mercy in their relationships with God and one another.  

"Inspired by time-honored worship, the people of St. John’s Episcopal Church strive to boldly love every person and all creation."
We find our time-honored approach to worship inspiring, and yet we also believe God calls us to find ways to make it more welcoming to those who are searching for a connection to God. We want to be a congregation where children will find their spiritual home—and their passion for God—here among us. And we want to equip Christians of all ages to learn what it means to follow Jesus in our current world. As we strive to boldly love every person and all creation, we believe God is inviting us together across our differences to change this world—both globally and right here at home.

Our Plan for Action
So... what steps do we need to take to reach that vision and be faithful to our mission? For each area of our vision statement, please list any concrete steps you think the congregation should take so that we might move forward faithfully with God's call.  

For example, you could say we should put even more emphasis on Godly Play or that we should review our bulletins or call up new ushers or start a daycare.... The question is what steps should we take to achieve each vision statement outlined below.

REMEMBER, these steps do not have to be new items. If there is a current activity or action of our parish that you believe fits one of these areas, you can list that as a current ministry which we should continue as we seek to be faithful to God's call today.

ALSO, don't feel obligated to come up with something for every area. This is a brainstorming exercise. Feel free to answer only for those areas below where you have ideas for concrete steps.
