Looking forward to attending the event sometime this weekend. I have to be in Melbourne on Monday for a meeting, so have taken the opportunity to come down for the weekend with my wife and spend some time at the exhibition - coincidentally my first ever! I have never even seen a frame in real life so I go in with no expectations and an open mind to what this event will contain.

Will ensure I swing by the stanpboards stand and say g'day!

Awwww shucks. I missed out on my picture being taken, again

Hopefully I'll be able to spend a bit more time there on Tuesday. Today was absolutely crazy - AP didn't have a clue. The queue for purchases from Australia Post, at one point, stretched to within touching distance of the far end of the hall; with only 4 check-outs

I owe BigSaint an enormous vote of thanks for manfully holding his post in the line for nearly TWO HOURS to purchase his bounty, and a couple of things for me while I was butterflying off on another matter  At least one very well-deserved cup of coffee is due. A pity about the postmark counter

Great to meet up with some of you there first thing today.

As no one responded to our question about attending the MCG on Saturday night I have just booked 2 tickets on line. There are a few left up in the seats where oxygen is supplied on demand. I guess we will need to work the rules out as we go along!

Good Luck!

"Rule Number 1" for the players is "Come off the ground alive with all limbs intact. Plus Head and any other important bits and pieces."

And, if memory serves me right when I took a Brit and his wife to the Footy 20 years ago, they were stunned that you could get a beer (frigidly cold as all beer should be!) and something to eat at the ground.

I was there but couldn't get across to the stand. I was filling some requests at the RM Post+go machines. Should I say, I was TRYING to do so. Of the 2 machines, only one was working initially and that had to be rebooted after EVERY transaction (internet problems).

Finally, the second machine was brought on line. I filled part of the requests from members here, then felt obliged to let the queue that was forming move along a bit.

Before I could have another go I got an urgent call from my Granddaughter's school and had to dash off.

I will be returning on Monday and, probably, most other days next week.

Hi All,

Looks to be a great show so far.

Show opened at noon.

I went outside at 12.20pm and could not believe how long the Queue was, so I went to the end of the Queue and paced it out, 140 paces long, and I'm 6' 3" tall so they were not short paces.

I think that they all wanted to check out the Stampboards counter.
Best regards David :)

In 1913, I wonder if the people who came up with idea for a stamp with a kangaroo and a map of Australia, would have dreamed that in 2013 there would be people coming from all over the world to celebrate them.

Here's what it's all about....

Hi Mr & Mrs C
Sorry I cannot personally get there — it would be good to 'press the flesh'.

Not only will you need oxygen be careful of nose bleed with the altitude. You will want the red and white team to kick more goals than the other one. Enjoy it, much more exciting than soccer and more scoring.

Have a great stay.

For those with a smartphone or tablet, you can download a World Stamp Expo app from Google Play or Apple App store.

I've just downloaded it, and I think it's pretty good. You can use it to find out about exhibits whether you're at the expo or not. I think it's a world's first for a stamp show!

Thanks Margo, unfortunately things are not in good shape with my back and travel down to Melbourne for the weekend is out of the question, had planned on going to the football as well, but I am going to be stuck laid up at home instead.

Hope everyone has a great time at the Expo and am really sorry that I won't get to meet up with you all.

This is the plaque acknowledging the World Heritage listing of the Exhibition Building and it's surrounding gardens (which looked very pleasant in the unseasonably warm weather today).

I have been ill for a couple of days now, and left this call until quite late in the hope that I would start feeling better. I simply so not have the energy, even for a one hour train trip and a visit to the show.

I am sorry that I will miss out on meeting so many members either at the show or at tomorrow's meeting, and also missing what sounds like a wonderful event so far. But I am there in spirit, so have fun guys and gals.

For those going to the Stampboards Dinner at the Imperial Hotel on Sunday night, I can confirm that it is a 15 minute stroll from the Exhibition building (that includes being stopped at crossings 4 times).

Margo insisted that I test the beer to make sure that it was safe/fit for Stampboarders consumption  So, duly following orders, I tested a few last night, and can assure everyone that they do have enough beer for Sunday   hic

Glen, Margo and team, thanks for being there and good to meet so many of you for first time.

If someone still thinking about going I recommend the visit if you can get there. Stampboards "desk" alwasy busy and entertaining.

Well done Glen and Margo and others, enjoy the dinner tonight, sorry cannot be there, and of course enjoy the rest of the Expo.

Best wishes... Michael

Not visiting the show myself, but I've heard that the Aussie personalised stamps at this show may be actual stamps this time (and not just tabs attached to stamps). It sounds like it may be worth the time for anyone visiting who is a collector of Australian stamps to mosey on over & check it out for themselves.

Thank you Armarantine78 for showing the venue. You know what I can't get over? The number of frames. Looks like it's over 2 floors, it would take months to view them all.

A few more photos, plus some items from my Wish List.

I failed completely to get good photos of the exhibits, just too much reflected glare.

I haven't been in the Exhibition Hall for years and it looks magnificent, one complaint there are to many exhibits and not enough time to properly appreciate them.

The organisers should be congratulated for doing a magnificent job.

Australia Post need more staff and counters there I think

Probably be back Tuesday

On Friday the Australia Post queue was taking between 2.5 to 3 HOURS to get to the front.

Today it was down to about 30 minutes...
