Return Of The Starfighter (Black Eagle Force Book 3) Kindle Edition
Rogue military elements within the Red Chinese government, led by megalomaniac Admiral Huang Meng secretly neutralize all of the US top line fighters, bombers and missiles. America is virtually defenseless.
With an armada larger than any seen since D-Day, Meng and his forces are set to invade the west coast of America. Their daring plan is to capture and hold California, Oregon and Washington states in payment for the multi-trillion dollar debt and their belief that China actually discovered America in 1422, seventy years before Columbus.
With overwhelming sea and air power, including their own version of the F-22 stealth fighter and a pair of fast catamaran ultra-super nuclear carriers, the Chinese have numerical and qualitative superiority over the decimated U.S. forces.
General Jack Stewart steps in with a bold plan to reactivate the "Old Iron" in storage at the Davis-Monthan boneyard. Can he pull off the defense of the United States with the help of forty and fifty year old aircraft? The ultra-secret and deadly Black Eagle Force is tasked to assist the interception the massive Chinese invasion fleet at all costs. The fate of America hangs in the balance.

Ken Farmer's dialogue flows like a beautiful western river...it's the gold standard. - Carole Beers
Ken Farmer didn't write his first full novel until he was sixty-nine years of age.
Ken spent thirty years raising Beefmaster cattle and Quarter horses in Texas and forty-five years as a professional actor (after a stint in the Marine Corps). Those years gave him a background for storytelling…or as he has been known to say, I don't write about outlaws and peace officers...I write about people.
Writing has become Ken's second life: he has been a Marine, played collegiate football, been a Texas wildcatter, cattle and horse rancher, professional film and TV actor and now...a novelist. Who knew?
I've read many Zane Grey and Louis L'Amour novels, but I enjoy Ken Farmer's the best! - Dr. Ernest Martin, DDS.
"Ken is a magnificent writer. I enjoy everything he writes whether it is about the old west, southern noir mysteries, or about the modern Black Eagle Force. - Israel Drazin TOP 1000 REVIEWER & VINE VOICE.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2023This is an outstanding novel. I read this book a few years ago, and have reread it again. This and all the Black Eagle Force books are outstanding. I have read them all, and I wish another the set of BEF. Books would come out.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2012I just finished reading this book. (Actually, I read all three of the Black Eagle Force books in order 1. Black Eagle Force Sacred Mountain 2. Black Eagle Force Eye of the Storm and this book). All are great reads!! I really enjoyed how fast this book moved and the overall big picture story. The involvement of a bunch of older fighter planes was awesome. It was a thrill to go back and research and remember all of the information about the old F105, F106, F111, F4 and F8. I am a huge fan of the F8 Crusader!!! Great story line and fast moving. This book reminded me of some of Tom Clancey's early writing - especially Red Storm Rising.
Stienke and Farmer - keep them coming!!! Great job.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2013Overall, I liked the book a lot. The air-to-air combat scenes were well written, realistic, and exciting. Frankly, there should have been more of them, particularly in the last chapters.
There was no real resolution or drama about the evil Chinese admiral. That was a bit disappointing.
In summary, it was a good book that kept my attention.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2013Ken describes to a "T" what the Chinese Communist want to do to our country - move in and set up for business. The entire story is very scary for those of us who pay attention to the news, and know what is going on in the world. The "Blue water Navy" the Chinese dream of isn't very big now, but give them another ten years and this exact scenario could be seen on our local news channels!!! This is a must read for any fans of Clancy, Cussler, and Dale Brown. The action is hot, and the results are more than satisfing!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 6, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseKF./BS. have. penned the third novel in the Black Eagle Force series, which contains the elaborate Chinese war plan. The Chinese will use their updated sea force to attack the United States. The United States falls into this potential trap with eyes wide open. That was the plan, but the retired men of the different sections of the service SAVED the day. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
- Reviewed in the United States on November 23, 2012A very unlikely plot both in its basic premise and its execution. The idea of the country's air forces being totally unusable is a real stretch of the imagination. However, the idea of recalling guys who flew century series fighters in the 60s and 70s, is a bit too much to swallow. While I'm sure they certainly would jump at the chance to fly again, how many would be able to handle the rigors of jet combat, or could leave a job or family to take part in a pipedream? Also, the unmothballing and modifications necessary for the old fighters from the boneyard, seems to have happened almost instantly. Where did the required stockpiles of spare parts come from so quickly? The use of everyone's call was never prevalent in the Air Force, and sounds like a re-run of Top Gun. At the time frame of the story, there were no F-106s to be had at the boneyard. They had all been shot down as high speed target drones at Tyndall and Holloman AFBs. I can imagine that any ex-carrier pilot reading this story would certainly swallow his gum at the thought of one of the recalled pilots catching the #2 wire on his first carrier landing in seven years. Numerous typos are another distraction. Considering all the above, the reader is asked to make too much of a mental leap for this book to be highly recommended. Its only saving grace is the well done air combat scenes.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 23, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseMr. Farmer has expanded on the Black Eagle Force universe with an interesting concept; what if the newest Navy and Air Force technology could be neutralized with old-school weapons? The main character accidently discovers that there is a subtle flaw in modern stealth systems that could lead to their being tracked and destroyed by older fire-control systems. His efforts in validating and correcting the discrepancy lead to the discovery of a plot to attack the United States itself! The second half of the story details how legacy fighters and their crews are brought back to defend the nation after a cyber attack grounds the fifth-generation fleet.
Mr. Farmer can spin an engaging story, and his military experience colors the details vividly. If you have not read of Black Eagle, the book stands well on its own. BUT...you really should get your hands on the series and enjoy!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 24, 2013This was the first novel by Buck Steinke I have read. I look forward to reading more. It was a very satisfying read; the good guys won! The manner in which we won, overcoming impossible difficulties by means of the most imaginative and innovative of strategies, laid the foundation for a potentially greater satisfaction, which this author duly provided.
