- Reviewed in India on 2 April 2022Verified PurchaseA book that takes you on a journey that you wish you had taken much before. Ofcourse i say this as a man in his late 30s.
His creative style of questioning patriarchy by looking inward without being accusatory or pointing fingers at external factors is what makes this poetic journey one that the reader empathises with long after he has finished reading. Only to realise that what the reader is empathising with is not the writer's thoughts but rather with his own emotions and self reflection that he managed to hide away in a closet for so long because it was more important for him to 'be a man' as per the roles defined and pre-determined for him by his ancestors much before he was born. Thanks for this book, Manish!
- Reviewed in India on 13 November 2019Verified PurchaseA deep thought provoking compilation by Manish. “Trading armour for a flower” is an insight into our own psyche .
Human behaviour especially in the context of masculinity struggling with its compelling feminine partner is perfectly tracked through History and the present world.
Manish enlightens the reader beyond what is visible and somewhere helps one to self reflect and seek control of their own present.
A must read for those who are passionate observers of human behaviour and for everyone else to get a deeper perspective of their existence Itself .
- Reviewed in India on 8 November 2019Verified PurchaseThis first time published author surprised me with his insights. An often ignored subject, he presents a rare subject. It is cathartic and soothing to know and begin a journey of the acceptance of ying and yang that coexist in denial of one another. At a macro level this argument and resolve could well be instrumental to an issue as significant and big as world peace. A must read for all on a journey of self. Hoping to read more from the author.
- Reviewed in India on 4 November 2019Verified PurchaseThis is a powerful book into the journey of one's inner soul. As I browsed thru each page I started feeling deeply connected to myself. A beautiful blend of poems and pictorial representations, this book will compel you to reflect more and find your own solutions to various issues of life. Must read for those who are on a self-exploration path.
- Reviewed in India on 15 April 2020Patriarchy hurts men as much as it hurts women. It also impacts children, environment and the manner in which we conduct businesses. Therefore, it is important to bring to conscious awareness the wounds of patriarchy and heal the masculine. Much work is being done to heal the wounded feminine. However, one rarely comes across anyone acknowledging deep wounds that men carry in their psyche and offers to hold space to heal them. Manish Srivastava has done deep work in this space and has written 'Trading Armour for a Flower' which is a mirror for self reflection, healing and bringing about a balance between masculine and feminine energies. I recommend it for both, men as well as women.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a read!!
Verified PurchaseWhat a wonderful read. In a country where we're quick to say "men don't..." "men cant..." "all men....", here's a voice that's yearning to be heard, And it echoes so many together.
I feel people speak different languages - regardless of being a male or a female. More than the gender difference between a man and a woman, it's the stereotypical rhetoric that has a big role to play in behavioral differences. Kudos to you for penning it down beautifully!
