The One Who Got Away: A Christian Firefighter Romance (Second Chance Fire Station Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 348 ratings

The relationship is fake. But the sparks are real.
Can these best friends rekindle a second chance at first love? Or will they both end up burned?

Right here at the Minden Fire Department is exactly where I belong. But when I became Captain Storm, apparently it meant I needed a wife. Or at least, that’s what my mom’s friends think.

When Krystal comes back to town, I don’t know what to think. She was my best friend in high school. The truth is I loved her–as much as any eighteen-year-old kid could have. I think she loved me, too.

But she left, anyway.

I really do understand why. She had dreams to chase in Hollywood. How could I deny her that?

She’s here now, though. For eight weeks. And she’s taking over the fire department charity auction while her mom recovers from her fall, which means working with me.

I know we’re just friends. She’s going back to LA after the auction, but maybe her presence could get my mom’s friends off my back for a minute. We’ll just let people assume there is more to our friendship… No harm, no foul. I really could use the break from my personal matchmakers’ attention.

And I won’t say no to a little extra time with Krystal. I’m probably torturing myself. Friends is all we’ll ever be. Even a fake relationship can’t change the fact that she was The One Who Got Away.

Visit Second Chance Fire Station and discover the small town stories of faith, friendships, and forever happy endings that Tara Grace Ericson is known for.

Loved Bryce and Krystal's story... second chances is one of my favorites! I can only imagine how frustrating it would be to have everyone in town trying to set you up on dates, though! And realizing that communication, rather than assumptions, are so important in relationships!

The story in this book is a sweet reunion between two best friends who went their separate ways after graduation. One had wanted to marry. The other wanted to follow her dreams into acting. When Krystal’s mother falls, Krystal is needed at home to aid in her recovery. Bryce was her best friend in school and had planned to propose to Krystal after graduation but did not when he heard her plans of leaving. What happens when they are brought together to plan a bachelor auction to bring in donations for the fire department?

Wow! This book pulls you right in. We’re back in Minden Indiana home of Bloom farms, but this time with the local first responders. Bryce has loved his best friend Krystal since hs, but she had dreams-big ones, that included acting and movies and she Was Not going to Settle for small town life. She’s back in town helping her mom recover from a fall and it’s so easy and feels so right to spend time together. Can they really overcome 15 years apart and all their unfulfilled dreams? This is a squeaky clean story with definite Christian themes and life views, but it’s not preachy. Tara Grace Ericson is quickly becoming a favorite have to read author. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series. I received this as an ARC, but I also bought it.

This book was so good! I love how the characters are so true to life, so realistic. Bryce and Krystal both had to make tough decisions, and they relied on their faith to help. This is the second time I’ve read this book, and at some point, I’ll probably read it again.

I loved these characters; they were both so stubborn at first, unwilling to be the one to give up their dreams, but then realizing their dreams could coincide. There is so much hope in this story - that as we focus on what God has for us and where He is leading us, we can rest in His perfect plan for us and His everlasting love, faithfulness, and forgiveness. I thought it was especially fun that Krystal was working on a movie called “A Firefighter for Christmas.”
