Tory partying: was Cameron Dave the Raver?

This article is more than 15 years old

Oh, is this the way they say the future's meant to feel? Or just 20,000 people standing in a field?

There may not be thousands of ravers waving their arms in the video of a Sunrise party that has turned up on the internet, but is one happy young dancer the future for all of us?

Young raver Cameron lookalike
The young raver in question, who bears more than a passing resemblance to the Conservative leader, David Cameron

Resplendent in dungarees is a long-haired young man who looks uncannily like David Cameron with a grin almost as wide as an Acid House smiley. In the purple-hued footage, the young raver appears on a YouTube clip claiming to be from a 1988 Sunrise party, set to a remix of Art of Noise's Moments in Love.

Sadly, the squares at Tory central office last night "categorically" denied that the lookalike raver was Cameron.

Intriguingly, one of the people best-placed to say who this Cameron lookalike might be is rightwing blogger Guido Fawkes, otherwise known as Paul Staines, another former raver who as a young man was PR guru for the Sunrise collective, one of the groups behind 24-hour parties in the countryside of southern England.

However, he was uncharacteristically tight-lipped last night about whether Cameron attended one of his raves. So was central office. Has Dave ever attended a rave? "I have absolutely no idea," said a Conservative spokeswoman.
