The Turn-key Tributes Program

Funeral Homes Should Be The Center Of All Memorialization In Their Community…

National as well as Local

Greensboro, NC – More than ten test funeral homes facilitated their community’s outpouring of respect and the need for local expression precipitated by the recent death of “America’s Pastor”, Billy Graham. They did so by displaying an outdoor “ready-made” banner and offering a custom register book for condolences.

The result:  The tying of a national event to a local presence resulted in hundreds of people signing specially made register books, the collection of donations to Graham supported charities, much positive local publicity through newspapers and, even television interviews featuring the funeral director.

The brainchild of communications expert, Joe Weigel and Funeral Service Expert, Alan Creedy, The Turn-key Tributes Program localizes public events by giving an opportunity to share grieving or celebrating at local levels. By making the funeral home the central place to gather and remember participants become the focus of a normal and natural human need.

“For years, funeral homes have sought to be the place in their community where the public memorializes, honors and celebrates events, not just the death of a loved one,” stated Alan Creedy, president of Creedy and Company. “The Turn-key Tributes program causes people to think of a funeral home in just that way.”

At its foundation, the program allows the funeral home to recognize an important occurrence or happening either on a national stage or locally.

In the case of the test, the participating funeral homes displayed a banner saluting the life of Dr. Graham and invited the community to come inside to sign a register book, which was later forwarded to the Graham family.

“In addition to the banner and register book, the test funeral homes were provided a media kit that included a press release and media tips to generate news coverage in the community for the firms”, commented Joe Weigel, owner of Weigel Strategic Marketing. “In fact, several funeral homes not only generated coverage in the local newspaper, but also a visit by the local TV station that resulted in a story in the evening news.”

While the program was created to pay tribute to the passing of a national figure, the Turn-key Tributes program is not focused solely on the notable deaths or tragic events. The program will recognize other national achievements. In addition, the program has a local element whereby the funeral home can order materials to salute a local event or accomplishment. The package also includes necessary materials to get the word out about the event and generate favorable publicity in the community.

“Much like newspapers prepare advance obituaries, we have identified several notable public figures and have created the necessary designs and press kits to allow us to ship the materials in less than two days,” stated Creedy. Once a funeral home signs up, they simply wait for the materials to arrive and put them to use. . . it couldn’t be easier”.

How Turn-key Tributes Works

During the course of any given year, there seem to be at least 4 national or international events that are an opportunity for community commemoration. Beyond Dr. Graham’s passing earlier this year other events might have included:

  • The Las Vegas Shooting
  • The Parkland Shooting
  • The U.S. Women’s Hockey Olympic Victory
  • Last year’s hurricane tragedies

When these things happen, tragic or victorious, humans have a need to express themselves, gather and comfort one another.

It is the goal of this program to re-establish the local funeral home as the place that people go to gather, comfort and celebrate events with one another.

By displaying a custom banner and offering a custom designed register book we hope that the community will begin to see our exclusive participants in that way.
