"Free" Parcel Shipping Stamp Frankings From Glen Stephens

Post by stallzer »

I received a Parcel from Glen this week and I was looking forward to see how Glen franked his parcels, but now I guess I won't know about this one.

Image

They put the shipping label and lots of packaging tape directly over what appears to be a block of Stamps. Is there anyway to safely remove this ?

Robert, was it FedEx or Aus Post?

That's a AusPost docket on the top.

Aren't the stamps under plastic? They normally are sealed under plastic by Glen after being cancelled.

Glen always 'hides' the stamps under the shipping label. As he warned me by email about my last parcel from him "use a box cutter and surgeon precision to cut the plastic pouch open".

I can see the block of stamps peeking up above the top of the registered post label.

Apparently there were 'incidents' of parcels arriving with the stamps stolen out of the plastic pouch, so now they're well hidden, and postal workers seem to know so little about how things work they won't question why there's no stamps/computer label visible on the box. :o

Sealing the franking inside one of those small bags really is a great idea. :D

Had I been smart enough to figure it out before the sand in the hourglass ran out, I would have changed the title to "I can't figure out how to get a shipping label off"

I have personally written an apology to Fed Ex. I was very pleased to find what was under that plastic and label, not to mention what was in the package and I really should include a big Thank you!

To Glen - please list me as another VERY satisfied customer. :)

Is that real toning/rust on the corners?

Or is that a deliberate part of the printed stamp design, to make it look authentic, i.e. to make it look old?

Yes,

Glen always goes that extra mile to make sure you get nicely franked stamps and I like his hiding the stamps behind the plastic sleeve/cover.

Got one recently and although the postie bent the envelope to fit into my small postbox, I was able to still retrieve the $5 Heritage miniature sheet, which was nicely cancelled, put it in one of the SG catalogues, piled up about 1.5 feet of other heavy books on them and a few days later, when I looked at it, most of the creases were gone.

Thanks Glen.

Appreciate the effort.

Stallzer .. good to see you found the "hidden" postage sheets. :)

They are worth easily the $40 face value when neatly cancelled like that I think you'll find, so "free shipping" bascially on a heavy lot. :D

I remember that a while ago Glen posted a scan of a piece of a package wrapping with many (12?) 2pound Roos and as many 1pound Roos as postage plus some other make-up pre-decimals - I am wondering now if it was one of Glen's ancestors that sent that package!

Great scans!

Am pleased to report many members take the trouble to use lovely franking to me as well. 8)

Member Maureen mailed me this gem recently.

With that absolutely massive Canada $10 "Blue Whale" zip code corner single, and 6 of the scarce and huge $8 Grizzly.

All lovely cancelled at WHITE ROCK B/C. Franking $C58.

EMS tracked Express Post label and backstamps on reverse.

Gem postal history cover for the future - anyone who likes this kind of piece please contact me.

Hi Glen,

Greetings and thanks for the VERY FAST service -- Mailed Monday July 25, received in Canada on Wednesday, August 3. Not only that August 1 weekend was a long weekend and the post office was not open on August 1.

It must have taken the POLAR ROUTE to reach Canada.

And if that is not all, 30 blocks of AAT stamps, totalling 120 stamps for the postage - and all hand-cancelled

Absolutely amazing. What else can I say ... I am a truly happy camper.

but wait, there is more too come ...

You are absolutely correct. Those stamps are still current right now. Both the $8 and the $10 are not stocked by many of the franchised retail postal outlets.

At the corporate post offices you may have to ask, and if they do not have any in stock they will have them in the next day or two, at least that has been my experience.

Yes, it sure is. The $10 is the largest stamp (by MILES!) ever issued by Canada. Indeed is is probably one the largest stamps issued anywhere on, the globe for postal use.

I bought a specialist cover for a client this month from a large Canadian auction, who told me Registered air post was $20.

I asked if they might be so kind as to source a full sheet (2 stamps!) of these quite massive new $10 Whale stamps, and use that on the sending.

Here is the end result below. An absolute cracker - genuine postal use in period, and postally used full sheets on cover will be classics of the future.

The stamps have survived perfectly, and this New Brunswick PO seems to be the only one in Canada NOT using the ugly Rectangle cancels!

I've asked at some Canadian PO when mailing from there for a circular cancel to be used please, and they tell me no such thing was on hand.

Anyway, it goes to show that even the largest shippers CAN and DO take care if asked nicely - many thanks to Eastern Auctions. 8)

The other postal used covers I had with $10 Whales on them sold fast, and have added this one to stock at $A30, so will MAKE money on a Registered packet - which is how I hope all sendings from me are regarded by recipients. "Free Postage". :)

It was a nice WHITE one tho .. and who has a $50 Meter in their collection after all! Gems of the future I can bet.
