Fishing Tips - How Curiosity Transformed a Community of Faith

Your Vermont Conference is intentionally seeking ways to help our congregations be more vital so that what we pass on is something alive, even thriving, to the next generation of disciples. We are committed to that work, even while understanding there is no 'one size fits all' approach. To help bring a variety of approaches to you, in recent years we have formed partnerships, including our relationship with the Center for Progressive Renewal. That relationship has enabled us to bring to you amazing leaders and visionaries to keynote our Vitality events. This fall, we are doing it again!

During the morning sessions, our Keynoter John Pentland will engage us with content on how curiosity transformed his United Church of Canada congregation by exploring some of the ways people 'threw their nets on the other side of convention'. Through story telling and shared reflection we will discover how this might work, no matter where we are in church land. This is based on his book,

Fishing Tips - How Curiosity Transformed a Community of Faith.

In the afternoon we will explore:

SBNR- Spiritual But Not Religious is half the story...

yet What makes Good Religion in 2016... enough?!

What matters most in our experience today?

An exploration of the ingredients of a relevant faith community...NOW.

Join us in the reflection!

Please click on this link to view/print/download a pdf flyer to share in your setting. This event is designed for groups of 4-6 from each congregation, including both clergy and congregants. Single registrations are also of course welcome.

Our Keynote Speaker is the Rev. Dr. John Pentland, an innovative community builder, creative visionary and inspiring leader. John Pentland has been in ministry for 28 years in the UCC, in  rural, urban, and inner city congregations. His church, Hillhurst United in Calgary, Alberta has more than quadrupled its membership, adding a second, and later a third, under John's leadership since 2005. John transformed HIllhurst into an important, inclusive gathering place where everyone is truly welcome.

Here's what the Rev. Dr. Brent Hawkes had to say about Fishing Tips - How Curiosity Transformed a Community of Faith.

"John Pentland has the amazing ability to communicate workable ideas that will help your church to grow. These are not just ideas he thought of, but things he has put into practice and seen that they really do work. We need the Christian church to be a vibrant alternative and this book will show you a way to get there."

If you want more information about John and/or John's book, you can find it HERE. The website for his church is Hillhurst United Community.

This workshop is presented as part of our three year investment with CPR to equip our churches for mission and ministry today and tomorrow.

Register Now!Cost is $25 per person which includes lunch. Check in begins at 8:30 a.m. Event is limited to 200 people.

We are really excited we can bring John Pentland to the Vermont Conference. Make sure to register early as our Vitality events tend to fill up quickly.

Hope to see you there!
